TORONTO: September 7, 2018 – Metrolinx recognizes there are a number of major events happening in Toronto this weekend, including: the Toronto International Film Festival, a Blue Jays home series, Argos vs Ticats at BMO field, and the Outlaw Music Festival at Budweiser Stage.
Here is the critical information our customers need to know, who may be wondering how this weekend’s service reductions will affect their travel:
Most importantly, Lakeshore customers should note there is HOURLY service along both the East and West lines. Also, all Lakeshore train trips are expected to take an additional 10-15 minutes.
In addition, there’s some specific information that some of our Lakeshore West GO train customers need to know this weekend (September 8-9):
IF YOU’RE HEADING EAST AND ARE STOPPING AT EXHIBITION:
·Riders of Lakeshore West, who are heading to Exhibition, will have to stop at Union first and then change trains.
·“Exhibition Only” trains at Union will then take passengers to Exhibition Station.
·Extra staff will be there to help customers safely transfer trains.
·Customers transferring trains should plan for at least an 30 minutes of additional travel
IF YOU’RE AT EXHIBITION AND ARE HEADING WEST:
·Riders at Exhibition heading to Long Brach, Port Credit, Clarkson, Oakville, Bronte, Appleby, Burlington or Aldershot will have to go Union Station first.
·Once at Union, passengers will be able to transfer to a Lakeshore West train
·Lakeshore West trains will then run express to Long Branch – and will then make all stations stops to Aldershot.
·Customers transferring trains should plan for at least an additional 30 minutes of travel
MIMICO STATION CUSTOMERS:
·There will be no train service at Mimico GO Station this weekend.
·Mimico customers are being encouraged to use Long Branch GO Station or take the TTC.
Metrolinx recognizes this weekend’s service reductions will inconvenience some of our customers; however, it’s critical we reduce our service to allow for important bridge upgrades and necessary platform construction along the Lakeshore lines.
By reducing service on the weekend when there are fewer customers, we will get this work done safely, faster and more efficiently.
In addition to work on the Lakeshore lines, signal upgrades at Union Station will also affect UP Express service this weekend.
UP EXPRESS CUSTOMERS:
·UP Express service is being reduced to every half hour.
·Trips from Union Station to Pearson Airport are expected to take 10 to 15 minutes longer.
·Please allow yourself additional travel time getting to and from the airport.
