It looks like the missing new Lakeshore East expresses will be operating in non revenue test mode service for awhile.
Oh that's interesting.

Did someone higher up at Metrolinx get stung by the January Kitchener changes and insist on some kind of test in case they can't run them on time, afraid of the bad press?

From a station like West Harbour that has about - what was it - 40 riders a day?

As the saying goes if you build it they will cum. To that end Hamilton is a bustling town and will attract people to board the trains. It just lacks capacity to do permit more passengers sort of like a Line 1 train heading south when it hits Lawrence.

If you were talking about about a station in the middle somewhere, sure.

But how does a 10-car (12-car?) train starting at West Harbour have capacity constraints, when there seems to be only 10 passengers starting on some runs? Perhaps we are talking about different things?

It would have made more sense to have a train run from Oakville to Niagara stopping at West Harbour. That's if they wanted to stop there.

I had suggested a train from Oakville to Niagara stopping at West Harbour.

It's probably later on in the run. Starts to fill by Oakville, and is mostly filled by Mimico.

^Although the way Toronto does things, it's more like they keep coming, but we won't build.

It'll be- We are doing a EA, then we are planning, then "we are delaying the project", then "it's further delayed" and then it's built
Lots of optimism here. It will be more like "We are doing a EA, then we are planning, then "we are delaying the project", then "it's further delayed" and then it's in time for the next government to cancel it. Then all over we go again."

Given the $30B size, I'm hopeful most of RER Package #3 remains intact.

Hurontario and Hamilton LRT might sneak through. Everything else is after the 2022 provincial election for a tender, so completely up in the air.

^When was there ever midday train service beyond Unionville? Was that ever actually reduced? #memorybank

- Paul

There was a single reverse commute train that operated from 2004

"This was followed, on April 30, 2004, with a reverse-commute train running northbound from Union to Markham in the morning and southbound from Markham to Union in the afternoon. This was accomplished at minimal costs, using a run that had been deadheaded before. "

I dont know when it was cancelled.

The mayor has things a bit jumbled. Many of the complaints were about direct bus service (express to Markham GO) being replaced with a train and bus connection that almost doubled travel times and severely reduced frequencies. Of course we'd rather have trains, but for anyone north of Unionville GO (i.e., most of Markham) the old bus routes were better that the train/bus combo. Running trains to Mount Joy should have happened in the first place, but at least it's there now.
