As someone who relied on the York University GO station for a semester, and was coming from far beyond Vaughan, even a special case fare discount is badly needed for those York and Seneca students and teachers that used that connection...

March/2022? That means that ML has only 3 and a half years to electrify 300km of track, receive an entire new fleet of vehicles, potentially redo stations to ensure level boarding, do all the substation work, and train the staff? At ML glacial speed, Torontonians will be lucky to have RER by 2030.
heres some more details mentioned by metrolinx seems like 2025 is a date theyre targeting

Wouldnt be suprised to hear that they have a detailed construction schedule already

- commitment to keep train traffic at current levels on the barrie corridor until electrification is fully complete (apperently 2025 for the barrie corridor)
- barrie corridor electrification completion in 2025

2025 hasn't been the completion date for a while. I believe the program is expected to wrap up in 2028 last I heard.

It will be a gradual increase in service levels over that time frame though, as others have mentioned. It's not like service will remain where it is today until one day in 2028 the electricity will turn on for all 5 corridors and all 5 lines will suddenly start running 15 minute frequencies. GO will ramp up service between now and then, some lines will finish earlier, etc.

That merits being pulled out for the Twitter-Previewless and the click-averse.

Why does York U station have to close if there are two tracks at that point already? Have they not been using the east track yet for in-service trains, so the lack of a 2nd platform didn't make any difference?

^The rationale for closure is to not have two stops so close together.

And you are correct - to operate the station under a more frequent headway, one would need a second platform with a passenger tunnel.

It was more of a timing question - why now, unless GO were about to make an operational shift, or because the work was not trackbed related (demolishing the platform for a signal mast or other infrastructure.

Or people within Metrolinx were just worried that if it wasn't demolished now, while demand was low, they may be leaned upon to retain it and have construct a 2nd platform anyway.

Can someone refresh us if they've fixed the east end mainline connection into / out of West Harbour? Are trains from Niagara still having to back in from the west side?
They are still doing that - it won’t be fixed until the confederation go station in Stoney Creek starts construction, as an additional track between West Harbour and Confederation is a part of that work. The station was put out to tender last April but it’s been radio silence since so who knows when it will actually start.
