Was new years even bad on the GO side? Every single photo I saw of the crowds at Union Station was people heading to the subway, not the GO concourses.

The new inbound trips from Oakville aren't actually extras, they're just deadheads that are being run in service. Those are trains that had just terminated at Oakville on a westbound local run.As well, it is difficult to understand the logic of running multiple extras inbound on the Lakeshore lines, but only one outbound. Inbound the demand should be staggered, as not everyone is going to be leaving at the exact same time to get there, but the demand will be pretty uniform outbound, and I have serious doubts that a single trip will suffice.
My sense is that he was either referring to Park Lawn or he simply misspoke. He probably saw all the construction around Long Branch, and thought "huh, new station!".
Turns out a random Mississauga MPP did prematurely announce a new station at the Lakeview development, and that station wasn’t Long Branch GO, or Park Lawn; which is located in Toronto, so of no interest to a politician in Mississauga.Agreed. A random Mississauga MPP doesn't announce a moderately substantial transit spending item for the first time when Ford is standing right there and you don't accidentally forget to invite the Minister of Transportation when announcing a large new transit spending item too.

Doug Ford promised to build a new local train station. Metrolinx says it’s a bad idea | Globalnews.ca
Last spring, the government announced it was granting zoning order to a Mississauga development, with a promise the move would also bring a new GO statin to the area.globalnews.ca
I know this article was already brought up in another thread, but since it was originally brought it up here a few months ago its probably relevant enough.
For context, it's a 4 minute bus ride to Long Branch, on top of a 5-10 minute walk to the bus stop. The new trail connection through Jim Tovey Conservation Area will likely make it ~8-10 minute bike ride or a 30 minute walk (Google speeds, shorter if you go at a quicker pace).I believe I called that.

Mississauga is looking at constructing a BRT along Lakeshore that will connect with both Long Branch and Port Credit. So this new station is definitely not needed. For context, it's a 4 minute bus ride to Long Branch, on top of a 5-10 minute walk to the bus stop. It was pretty bad for me, my train kept getting delayed multiple times, and was packed to the gillsWas new years even bad on the GO side? Every single photo I saw of the crowds at Union Station was people heading to the subway, not the GO concourses.
You’re against it because you believe the extra stop will make the general route slower.Mississauga is looking at constructing a BRT along Lakeshore that will connect with both Long Branch and Port Credit. So this new station is definitely not needed.
And how long do you think it would take to construct an entirely new GO starion? You’re against it because you believe the extra stop will make the general route slower.
the dundas brt is year away from being complete and we at least have some designs for that. And still that project is being crawled back because of lack of funds. When exactly do you think this lakeshore brt will be up in service because I haven’t seen one design presentation on it and I’m assuming funds again will be lacking.
I’ve given up and accepted this is what we got. This is how Scarborough got their subway. As a Mississauga resident I am voting for my best interest and that’s it.And how long do you think it would take to construct an entirely new GO starion?
Based on the recent article, its clear that the proposed Leaside GO station is nothing more than a "backroom deal" Doug made with his developer buddies and didn't consult MX first.
Aren't you guys usually against this type of corruption from Doug?
There was something just recently posted on the Miway thread.I’ve given up and accepted this is what we got. This is how Scarborough got their subway. As a Mississauga resident I am voting for my best interest and that’s it.
Btw where was all those reports on lakeshore BRT you were talking about. That serves my needs as well. Thanks in advance.
January 1st! Gosh, that might make New Year's eve travel they interesting.
Not perhaps the best day for a transition.
Presumably. But integrating staffing for the end of service on December 31, and beginning of day January 1st might have challenges. Especially with as many as possible taking vacation (or calling in sick). I'd have selected something like January 11th - that wouldn't have inherent pressures.Presumably it'll be start-of service on Jan 1st (~5am) rather than transitioning at exactly midnight.
