This new south entrance to Union really excites me. I love how modern/21st century it looks as compared to the north entrance. I also love the north as it looks so much more traditional than the south entrance......in other words, i am really digging how we are re-doing a grand old building and modernizing its look and functionality without losing its history.

If they had tried to make this south entrance old to keep it line with the north side it would have been, well, faux!

Some shots from a quick trip through the shed.

Great shots Interchange. Question about the future electrification of the GO system: how will the new electrification infrastructure fit into the Union train shed? Or is ML looking to replace the bi-level cars with single level EMUs? Has that been taken into consideration with these renovations?

Thanks for the great shots - it has been a while since I was last in Union Station, or at track level. Looks like great progress.
I am curious about the old roof structure; it looks as though they have made the openings above the trains wider to allow more light in, or am I mistaken? I know they are rehabilitating the old train shed and eventually applying a green-roof, but can someone explain to what extent, and whether or not my observations are accurate?

Those concrete trough-like pieces will have light coming down through them. The green roof will be installed over the rest. So there will still be light getting down to track level, but mostly reflected light providing some natural illumination, but it will be nowhere near as bright as it temporarily is during reconstruction of the shed. Expect lots of LED lighting the in the shed area.

It's interesting to see Union Station has a courtyard on the west side of the building. A landscaped courtyard would be a great amenity.
