It's interesting to see Union Station has a courtyard on the west side of the building. A landscaped courtyard would be a great amenity.

It's not a courtyard - it's a light well leading to the waiting area below:

According to Metrolinx, the roof of the new shed over track 1&2 will be made out of wood - heritage?

The roofing on all tracks of the old trainshed is wood. The difference with the trainset over tracks 1 and 2 is that it will span the full length of the platforms, whereas the others have a length cut out in the middle for the new Atrium.

The original wood over all tracks will be used over track 1 & 2 to keep the original look and heritage of the station. All the wood for the other tracks will be new and you can see it now.

Those pictures really demonstrate how important lighting up the platforms will be once the shed is covered up again; without a roof, the shed is the best it's ever looked. Is it too late to sheath the roof in glass instead?

Yeah it looks great. So they're going to re-cover it? That's a shame. Hopefully there will still be plenty of light and views of the financial district towers.

There will be a slit of light over each track, about a foot wide I believe. The rest will be green roof above (and yes, it's too late to change it!).

Query: How much light is going to get into the new green roof? I've been really enjoying the roofless interregnum. Are there going to be skylights over the tracks, or is it going to be solid greenroof right across?

They're adding a new wooden roof on the train shed, the wood is planks not plywood and is being covered by a dark coloured waterproofing. Looks like the first three tracks closest to Union Station have been covered

IIRC only the first two tracks closest to Union will be restored with wood as the original shed was; and the remainder will be metal with the green roof on top.
Hopefully someone can confirm.
