I'm pleased to announce to everyone that we've finally completed a "final" product of the bus map! As well, since researching and thinking about the big picture of intercity transit in Ontario lead us to bigger and bigger questions, we decided to start a long term blog project.

You can see the whole thing here: https://dudewheresmybusmap.wordpress.com/

As we go on, we're going to try and get more familiar with programs like Adobe Illustrator to create a more professional map. Anyways, leave your comments on our posts and lets start the conversation!
Excellent!

I'm going to forward that link to others, as well as add what I can later.

Very nice! One note - the greyhound route into Sudbury serves the Four Corners as well - Paris St just south of Regent. It then continues to head south on Paris, a right onto Brady and that brings them to the terminal.

Great stuff. A few routes, like the one to Huntsville, that I wasn't aware of.

Have you considered including "short-bus" services too? I've used these guys a couple times; about half their passengers are going from some random town to another random town.

Ontario Northland also serves Huntsville with several trips a day. ONTC isn't yet on this map.

The map looks great! I whipped together a schematic map of intercity bus services based on the above maps and various carrier maps. It's less detailed, but I thought I'd give a sort of overall view.

Thanks for the map!

The absence of a direct bus from Hamilton to Guelph is very frustrating for me! There have been small attempts at service the last ten years but they never last for more than a few years.

Nice map, schematics like these make it easier to read overall. Didn't know we had bus service to Port Elgin. Went camping there last year and it's a real hidden gem that people in Toronto should discover. Town even has a miniature train you can ride along the scenic coast.

Looks good! Really didn't know Dorset had bus service. The location of it is in the incorrect location however, it's located East of Bracebridge, not south-west. it would be somewhere above the second b in "Bracebridge" on the map.

edit: Wow, the service is really crappy. Once daily in each direction on Thursdays only. It would be nice if they could restore Northlander and have summertime weekend trips from Bracebridge.

Thanks, made the corrections and fixed some omissions. Also added the relatively new ONTC route between Ottawa and Sudbury.

This was over ten years ago: I took the Greyhound a number of times, and it stopped in both Guelph and Kitchener.
They do both. At peak, there's enough demand for both a Guelph run and a Kitchener run, express.

There's 3 types of Kitchener runs (or used to be at least). Through Guelph. Through Cambridge (Preston and/or Hespler). And express.

I've been on buses that stopped in Preston and not Hespler, but not vice-versa. I can't recall ever going through Galt. Of course, these things change over time, and I haven't done it recently.

Edit - better yet, here's the schedule - might be out of date, seems to be from September 2016 - http://extranet.greyhound.com/revsup/csked2/pdf/743c.pdf

Should GO Bus routes be considered on a map like this, now that GO services some long distance routes like Peterborough, Barrie, Kitchener, Brantford, St. Catharines and Niagara?

I really had nothing better to do today, so I made a schematic of intercity bus service c. 1992 based on this document and an old PMCL map. I've added an updated schematic of service today for comparison.

Some notes:
The Red Lake—Kenora—Fort Frances line was discontinued recently as were other northern routes.
Carribou Coach now connects Fort Frances and Thunder Bay with limited service.
As mentioned in the document, ONTC acquired the Toronto runs to North Bay and Sudbury from Gray Coach in 1991.
PMCL was purchased by Greyhound in the late 90s. Some of their service in Simcoe County were discontinued recently. Hammond Transportation has picked up some of the slack.
GO Transit now serves Beaverton.
Coach Canada purchased the Toronto—Montreal run from Voyageur in 1993. They also purchased much of the Canada Coach Lines network.
Gray Coach, Voyageur, and Chatham Coach were all eventually purchased by Greyhound.
GRT now serves Elmira.
Up until recently, some southwestern Ontario services were provided by Aboutown. I don't think anyone has stepped up to fill the gap.
