Bernard Callebaut left this place ages ago, so it's sitting empty with a parking lot. Demolish and redevelop as a midrise similar to the Mercury Block.
I received this update in May from city. I will message for update.
"We are currently in the process of finalizing the detailed design and expect to tender the project in late fall 2024. Construction is anticipated to begin at 114 Street in 2025, with the contractor determining the specific work schedule. We estimate the project duration to be approximately three years, but this will be confirmed once the contractor is selected."
The federal government's $400million active transportation fund is helping to pay for some of this project's work - sidewalk, street furniture, lighting etc.
the City has completed concept planning for the avenue from 92 Street to 96 Street and from 102 Street to 109 Street. Timing of construction for these phases has not been determined.
Note that Jasper Avenue New Vision (102 to 109 Street) is currently unfunded. Will need to push hard when Capital Budget is up for discussion next fall (after next election) either through taxpayer funded infrastructure renewal or CRL. Current forecasts for CRL doesn't have money in it for this project (CRL currently ends in 2034).
Once 124th-116th Imagine Jasper is done, I think it'll probably be one of the busiest pedestrian areas in the city and one of the nicest too. Would have been even nicer and probably busy with bus lanes but I digress.
Jasper Ave is probably more important to fund than almost any other infrastructure project as it's considered to be the main street in Edmonton, an extremely rich city in an extremely rich province. It's embarrassing.
