I read somewhere a while ago that AFC Toronto wants to play at Lamport but can't so they also play at York Lions. Not sure how substantiated that is but it makes sense and I would love for them to play closer.

Part of me is concerned about what redevelopment of that stadium to be broadcast-friendly will do for adult recreational sports in the city -- right now it's used at least 5 days/nights a week for soccer, ultimate frisbee, and flag football. There are often more people interested in playing rec soccer than there are fields with lights to accommodate them, and this is pronounced in the winter where it's just Lamport and Central Tech that put up domes downtown which get used by rec leagues. There are some others outside "downtown" but they're too far or hard to get to for many (Cherry Beach, Downsview). Would be a shame if rec sports leagues are no longer viable at Lamport, especially with the upcoming Ontario Line station.

I'm interested to see how this one plays out. There are tenants who want Lamport and it'll be interesting to see how much sway they can bring and how much funding they can bring to raise Lamport's standards and facilities. There's no reason why this can't exist in the city, and there's clearly demand for such a facility beyond BMO. There's currently no medium-small-sized venue (or, really, large-sized venue, either).

Where in Downsview would this be? The city-owned field with the blue track? I suppose there could be room to put stands on one side for up to a few thousand people, but Lamport is already an existing stadium.
The only matches I can recall in Downsview with a few paying spectators were TFCII ones in 2019 with some small temporary stands at one of the TFC training grounds fields.
With news of York United and AFC Toronto meeting with the City about Lamport I'm guessing they are no longer looking at Downsview.

Doesn't TMU play at Downsview?

Just curious, but does any one know why York United want out of the Lions Stadium? The PanAm athletics track was torn out to make the stadium attractive to soccer teams.
