Youre right... that mainly sick socialist council were to busy spending taxpayers money to sit by that fat penny-pincher.

Between your masturbatory fetishization of tall buildings and nonsensical neo-libertarian soundbites, at least no one can accuse you of cognitive dissonance.

Sorry, but those three were not viable candidates. People voted for Pantalone because he was the continuation of Miller, Ford because of his 'gravy train' and Smitherman because he was not either Pantalone or Ford. Where was the vision that we needed during the campaign?
Sorry, but they were. That you didn't like any of them is your problem.

The only socialist here is Ford. Asking money of everyone and anybody.
Same as Miller did, same as Lastman did, and same as the next Mayor will do if Provincial funding arrangements don't change

But neither of those calls to the Province were preceeded by a slash and burn approach to revenue streams. Lastman did it because the City had just amalgamated and there were a lot of pains in terms of combining departments and services, which required additional funding. Miller did it because he was campaigning for additional revenue streams from the Province.

Ha ha!

Why not, does Toronto not deserve it.. The socialist clan here are scared that Ford might actually accomplish receiving some sort of funds from the province and feds
If there was a need for this subway, you might be correct!

But as there is no need for this subway - at least east of Victoria Park, or west of Yonge, then it's a complete waste of money that could be used on projects that would be of more utility. For the $4.8 billion this would cost, we could build the entire Finch West LRT, Sheppard East LRT, Don Mills LRT, and the Scarborough-Malvern LRT. Or build Phase 1 of the DRL. It's such an obscene waste of precious money.

Hate is a strong word to use for someone you guys don't know personally. I wasn't a fan of David Miller but I didn't hate the man. I'm sure he's a nice guy. Rob Ford is a twit but the amount of hatred thrown his way is pathetic and childish. Hate his policies, but stop resorting to petty insults about his appearance. The left is supposed to stand for tolerance, yet many of the comments in here and across the city are making liberal minded people look like hypocrites and poor sports. Remember that Rolling Stones song, 'You Can't Always Get What You Want?' As much as David Miller was disliked in certain regions of the city, he never received death threats. These last ten months have really made it appear that conservatives are actually more accepting of difference than liberals. The disdain Miller received is peanuts to what Rob is dished on a daily basis.

Ignoring the right/left split (Rob Ford isn't really conservative, in the Burkean sense, anyway) you can't really compare David Miller and Rob Ford.

The right's version of David Miller is probably someone like Jim Flaherty; ideologically-driven just as Miller was, but someone who is relatively quiet, tempered and civil in his governing style.

The left's version of Rob Ford, however, is probably someone like Hugo Chavez. A loudmouth reactionary who blocks opposition, acts unilaterally and revels in his ignorance and arrogance.

How do you know?

No such incidents were reported. I assume if there were any we would have heard about them at the time. Then you have guys like Adma who basically thinks a Ford assassination is necessary and he supports the notion. Disturbingly no one questioned him, but Tkip. That leads me to believe most of you would like to see this carried out. I certainly wouldn't like to see a political figure I disagree with to be murdered. What justification could there possibly be for raising such a twisted, evil prospect? One would have to be completely empty and fed up with their own life to wish that upon another.

Ford may not be a true conservative, but conservatives voted for him. He was the closest thing to a conservative candidate in the last municipal election.

To their dismay, I'm assuming.

As for your 'don't make comments about his appearance' crap -- how many times did we hear about Miller's hair? Barbara's roundness? Mel's NOOOOOBODY? ads? The Ford supporters on this site are just more offended by the fat jokes because they 'feel' more vicious to them -- 'cause it's their guy, but also because he's ridiculously obese, and so that's the easy attack. Sorry, lads, but if you're going to refer to yourself as '300lbs of fun', you're going to have to put up with the fat jokes. Get used to it -- 'cause it's going to get worse as his popularity drops and the really vicious no-minds start weighing in.

Please, you and I both know no mayor has ever been given more flack than Ford and he's not even a quarter of the way through his term. How many of our past mayors received death threats? He's already the most hated mayor in Toronto's history, among downtowners. You're inevitably going to get insults hurled at any large political figure, but the Ford hate is on a level I've never seen before. Some of you think this guy is Hitler. I don't love Ford either, but I don't hate him or wish pain upon himself or his brother. The problem is the left preaching tolerance, yet too many from that side are anything but tolerant. Nfitz is the perfect example. He probably considers himself a tolerant person but anyone who disagrees with his ideas, he is quick to label. Would you like some gravy with your chicken McBigots, Fitzy? And just because Rob referred to himself as 300lbs. of fun, that doesn't make it right to poke fun at his gut. Do you enjoy it when people make fun of you? I'm sure a lot of his opponents are equal slobs. We all know he's got the body of a Greek god.

I know you're baiting me, but what the heck... I hated Mel WAY more than I hate Ford so far. I thought Hall was WAY more of an idiot than I think of Ford so far. The guy's only had 6 months to build up my opprobium, yet he's done a fabulous job... so far. And, yes, when I self-deprecatingly refer to my 'skylight', I give permission to my daughters to make fun of my bald spot. When Fat Boy refers to his obesity, he opens the door. And, Nads, when you try to defend Ford on the 'we shouldn't make fun of public figures even if they're deliberately divisive' front, you make me worry slightly about your... balance. Are you feeling OK today? Taken your meds? Need me to get you something to fend off the spiders on your skin?

That seems unlikely. Miller hasn't spoken about the issue. Lastman has said he received many threats - and earlier in his mayoralty than Ford. These threats tend to come from those who are mentally unstable.

It seems implausible that there were lots of threats to Lastman, none for 7 years under Miller, and now again under Ford.

A more likely scenario, is that Miller (and Lastman) didn't grandstand about the issue.

Nfitz is the perfect example. He probably considers himself a tolerant person but anyone who disagrees with his ideas, he is quick to label.
What on earth are you talking about? What's with the unwarranted personal attack. Your a new member here ... I haven't done anything to provoke you on this.

Would you like some gravy with your chicken McBigots, Fitzy?
What is that supposed to mean? I've not made any comments about Ford's bigotry since long before you joined the forum. And I don't think I've ever commented on McDonalds. Given that in your recent contributions to other threads, you've made unnecessary sexist comments ... I really have to wonder what your motives here are.

What does this sudden and unwarranted personal attack on me have to do with this thread? It sounds like you are agreeing with the same position I put forth in this thread.
