It was essentially a choice between two Democrats (a Democrat 'insider' & a Democrat 'outsider'), much like what happens in California.

Now, I'm hardly a fan of the Republicans, but this doesn't seem like a healthy political system to me.

Two Democrats? Yeah that's sounds rigged to the core. End of the story,

GOP strength in Chicago basically doesn't exist though. It is like how statewide senate races in California are sometimes two Democrats due to the top two primary system.

Yes, and this is really the result of each political side trying to shut each other side out in a zero-sum game. Each side has evidently decided that the other is morally wrong, and cannot be allowed back in power at any cost. This of course erodes democracy, and I really cannot see things improving under the current system.

The above is essentially the result of gerrymandering, illegal voting without strong voter ID laws (resulting in rumors of things like busing out-of-state 'voters' between jurisdictions), aligning justices and attorney generals (to get investigations shut down) and evidently in the latest rounds, some ridiculous thing called "ballot harvesting" that breaks the paper chain of custody.

The Republicans go for the jugular, the Democrats do the same thing but dress it up in comfortable, progressive wording (which is worse as people can get lulled into the belief that they're safe, until you get 30+ years of unbroken Democrat rule).

Have we ever had a mayor who looked so spineless and weak?

ALL the cities and towns in Ontario are legally children of the province. When Toronto wanted to put tolls on the Gardiner/Don Valley, the province said "NO!".

Tory will fall in line.

Don't be surprised when council votes in favour of Ford's new plan.

The one thing Tory does have is a majority of council whipped.

Tory just needs to keep bragging about filling potholes... as the city's co-mayor, Doug will take care of everything else.

IMO, Tory will run again, especially if it looks like DoFo will do poorly in the 2022 election.

Can we imagine the nightmare if RoFo was major and DoFo as premier?

Would Mayor Keesmaat have been able to do anything?

Keesmaat would have been the equivalent of someone getting pulled over by police, yelling and arguing to their face and then wondering why things are escalating

She would have pissed of Doug more and likely making things far worse for her cause. Tory like any Mayor would have has little power on council and no power against the Province as would anyone else. He is basically is an empty shell as the face of a dysfunctional council and a Premier will a full majority and vendetta against the dysfunctional council that went against his brother. Torys done everything right by verbally supporting views across the City. Nothing else he can do better in this climate as Mayor
