College and Huron SE corner again. I forgot this particular 'Then' [May 2015 I think], it was on my laptop.

The condo builders here perhaps sought to give the impression of an old facade saved, or a street level in tune with the neighborhood, but in fact the original building was demolished.

Sorry to disappoint Mustapha, but it's not my image..........I wish it were.
I found it on a Google spread of magnificent colour in Nfld.
Unfortunately, I found no credit.

Some discussion of the intersection of Dundas and Chestnut in the 80s thread.

I remembered the gas station on one corner, but couldn't find a photo for it in that decade.

So.....here's what I did find.

Dundas-Chestnut, south-east corner in May 1938:

Originates w/Toronto Archives: Series 372, Subseries 33, Item 368.

Now, the same site, still with a gas station, in 1972:

What's interesting is that *both* the 1938 *and* the 1972 versions are interesting for their own era--the latter with its space-frame roof and Brutalist party walls definitely had more architectural pretensions than your typical 70s urban gas station...

Verniers Ginger Ale painted on wall over a tobacco ad, then by 1972 painted with a Coca Cola ad.

Vernor's still exists, but isn't exactly common in these parts. Apparently decent market presence in Michigan (the company was founded in Detroit, and currently bottles/cans for the U.S. in Holland, Mich.)

Vernor's in Canada is actually bottled/canned here, in Mississauga, but apparently is mostly available/sold in Windsor.
