Some old signage surviving in 2 locations I came across during my walk today.




1. First location: Looking up at the side of a building near the NE corner of Queen W and Shaw.

'Davide' or perhaps it was 'Davids'? - he was an ambitious restaurant owner - not for him the usual nomenclature such as 'Chinese Restaurant' or 'Chinese Food', but the grand description: ' Oriental Cuisine'. In a font you can't get away with today. C'mon; say it. It sounds so Mad Men. Say it to your Asian friends and see what kind of a reaction you get.

2. Second location. Looking S, in the distance we see the N side of 758 Bathurst. Wall painted advertising uncovered as Honest Ed's has been cleared away. We only see it because the owners of 758 will not be selling to the developer.

Apparently the effort at preservation was successful.
This is now called Paul Kane House Parkette.

The former Canadian Bank of Commerce building, built in 1905 and now designated as an historic heritage building, is now headquarters for the couture fashion house, Stephan Caras.
