Just joined this fabulous site. Working my way through all the posts from the beginning. I'm about at 187 now. Somewhere back about page 10 someone was wondering what the industrial lot was filled with, looked like boxes all topsy turfy. They are tea chests from shipping loose tea leaves. They were reused for other uses. My parents used tea chests when we moved back to England in 1961. The original shipping container! Then they were used again to come back to Canada. Had them for years.

Welcome, LPCI and thanks for the input.
It's always helpful to learn more about our city's history.

I was just young enough to see all the old stuff in the 1960's but not to appreciate it at the time. My mother did, though, she brought home two beautiful doors from Tepperman sales. One became our front door, all stained glass except the 4 inch frame. When I checked the house in the early 2000's the door was gone.
Even if the city hadn't cut down the trees on Jarvis, they all would have disappeared anyway with Dutch Elm disease in the 1960's.
