Looks like that pedestrian bridget won't be opened until early summer 2024. Not sure what will take so long now that the span is in place. They just need to pour a few concrete piers and create the ramps? Original project plan was for a 6 month closure, due to open in September 2023.

  • March 18, 2023 - Early Summer 2024: Full Closure of Ogden Avenue Pedestrian Bridge - to facilitate full replacement of the bridge structure. Access to and across the bridge, which crosses the QEW between Ogden Avenue and Insley Road, will not be available throughout this period.

The missing section over the South Service Rd was installed just last week and there is more than you think to be done yet. We are in the winter months when things slow down and take longer to do..

Still have to build the forms for the columns and the ramps. Then there is the pouring of the walkway floor along with enclosure for it. Handrails have to be install as well fabricating sections on site to make the various turns.

South Service Rd at Ogden Rd was seeing a storm sewer installed the last few weeks with full closure west of Ogden and has reopen.

The North Service Rd still has to be rebuilt along with underground work at the overpass as well new sidewalks.

I had a quick look at the interchange and will be very surprised if it is open before the fall.

Both sidewalks and centre medium as well the bridge barrier still have to be poured. Expansion joints still has to be installed. Sidewalks on both sides of the bridge need to be formed and poured. There is curb work still to be done as well before paving can take place. Part of the ramp to the eastbound QEW is partly built with a barrier wall in place for the curve.

They are still putting in storm water system along the North Service Rd. The existing sound barrier wall along the North Service Rd is being shifted north with new steel columns being placed next to the Service Rd.

Once the new bridge is open, then the old one can be torn down to allow the building of the ramps to/from the QEW for it that will open in 2025.

Photos to follow this week.

They are still doing trunk line work on the new westbound off ramp west of Etobicoke Creek and until that done, can't open it up and finish it where the current traffic is getting off for Dixie

I know you're joking, but it got me thinking. Was this bridge designed to accommodate future widening for some kind of Dixie BRT?
Not that I am aware of. Even if it was, there is no room under the Lakeshore Line for an ROW, other than mix for an BRT.

It looks like the bridge shifted in the photos? If it did what sort of repairs would be needed?
The bridge was shifted when hit for one thing. It was move off the bearing plate support for one thing and hard to say what damage may have taken place for them. Same for the bridge structure and without seeing it up close, hard to say if any damage was done and what was damaged. It will take a lot of force to bend the tubing frame.

The bridge section over the westbound lane wasn't touch and it sits on the same bearing plates and the 2 section are not connected at this time.

Took a quick look at the site after a meeting and haven't miss much. They don't seem in hurry to get the new road and bridge open so they they can tear down the existing bridge to built the new off and on ramps to the QEW as well the new road.

They were forming the west barrier wall now the hydro ducting is in place. It looks like the sidewalk and the centre medium have been poured as will all the road from the bridge to new South Service Rd connected by Burger King. The road need to be strip. There is a short section for the southbound lane for a new on ramp to the QEW to go east, but cannot be fully built until the bypass is remove. This also effect the intersection where the new off ramp as well the ramp to go east as well the new east section of the South Service Rd. All the new traffic lights in place and ready to be turn on.

Nothing new for the north end as well on the new South Service Rd. The new North Service Rd eastbound lane is still close along with curb work and sound barrier that cannot be completed until the current westbound lane is close and the opening of the new access to Dixie Rd

lot more up on my site

This should be open this fall as there not much to do for the first phase, Traffic light to be install for the north service road, expansion joints at both ends waiting to be install, east sidewalk still to be built in places along with a retaining wall, the west cycling lanes still need paving. The new off ramp for westbound still not built and the rest of the eastbound north service road lane cannot be fully built until the new interchange is open.
