Yeah, those are some impressive statements by Elliott. Obviously, he will now have to prove himself on an ongoing basis, but that's a good first step.

Listening to the podcast gives a bit more context.
Honestly, pretty beautiful to hear comments from Elliott. Sounds like he experienced some really dark mental health challenges, somewhat alludes to being suicidal, went through some treatment for PTSD, and seems to be in a way better place. Hopeful that they’ll all have a great working relationship. Grateful to hear Mike is doing better as well and wishing him all the best in his work.

I was most excited to have Salvador as the new face on council last time. This time, I am looking forward to what Reed Clarke will bring. But am hopeful with all the new additions.

Interestingly, Montreal also just elected a new mayor, Soraya Martinez Ferrada. Apparently one of her priorities is bringing more business downtown there.It appears Knack is planning to be more involved in attracting business to Edmonton.
"Knack said that skill calls for a different approach, recalling a successful campaign by the city of Montreal to attract a major game-development company based in France — a campaign that brought the mayor of Montreal in on recruitment efforts.
“I think council has been hesitant to deploy the mayor and council along with business leaders when they’re going on these trade missions, or when they’re going on these opportunities to attract employment, and I think it is important that there is political leadership along with business leadership together when you are trying to attract somebody to come into our city,” he said.

Yes, Ensemble Montréal did (rather surprisingly) quite well in Ville-Marie (downtown and surroundings), probably channeling some of the worries about downtown crime and construction. I'm not that surprised that people are not impassioned by Rabouin the way they were by Plante.

It's good news, but if they are thinking centrally I have no idea where they would fund for one year, everyone has lost/closed/moved. Bissell has committed their drop in space to the Navigation Centre, Operation Friendship is now a night shelter run by the Mustard Seed, The Mustard Seed Church is being demolished, Spady has moved to the west side, etc.
In the past the city stepped up so summer day shelters could expand their hours, but when they stopped funding all together everyone closed. The infrastructure is all gone. I really appreciate this bit: "Coun. Erin Rutherford expressed concern about council’s repeated practice of giving one-time funding to social agencies, adding that it causes ripple effects when the city doesn’t renew those funds."

As someone that used to work in the non profit space, one time funding is almost useless for a lot of the non profit sector. Whenever we told them that we would give them surplus money we found under the pillow, they had many words for us, particularly because it was almost always halfway through a fiscal year. Politicians and public servants always tried to spin it as a good thing, but I don't think our non profit partners always saw it that way. I'd say this announcement is also closer to good "ish" news.
To your point, figuring out what to do with the money for such a short period may end up being less helpful to people, as it will result in a scramble for operators unless they are simply extending hours or operating on weekends. If it involves setting up a new temporary space altogether, I'm not sure if it is really a net positive, since the operation will be on a shoestring budget, which comes with its own set of problems.

King Thunderbird is designed with a major daytime drop in component, I'm not sure where the operational funding comes from but I am pretty sure they have atleast enough for their planned operations. Maybe this money could help expand hours, but regardless more than one location is definitely needed.
And no worries, its incredibly confusing! Its hard enough to keep track when you work(ed) in the sector. Programs come and go so rapidly. The instability is actually a major barrier for folks trying to find supports.

I'd be happy if Carney would send some of the nation building budget money towards Alberta so that we can build a high-speed train between Edmonton and Calgary. And then for the city more money to begin working on the North extension of the LRT towards St.Albert.
