Hu Jintao dragged out of the closing ceremony of the party conference today. There's speculation as to why but I think it's pretty clearly a show of force, since Li Keqiang and Wang Yang were both snubbed of central committee positions. Essentially a complete neutering of Hu's faction and any remaining power he might have as Xi completely consolidates his own power.

The South Korean government has proposed increasing the maximum work week (inclusive of overtime) to 69 hours, from 52.

Even in a country with a workaholic culture.....this is creating some seriously negative feedback (understandably!)

What a nightmare. So much for work-life balance - just pour every ounce of your energy and soul into pleasing and enriching the elites at the top at your personal expense.

And then they'll wonder why their population pyramid looks like this.

Shooting themselves in the foot, really.

Netanyahu just fired his defence minister for speaking out over his judicial reforms.

Rumours of a general strike coming, and ohh yea, the defence minister post is now empty. This is a crisis moment for Israel.

Netanyahu is someone of whom I have never been a 'fan'.

The man is currently on trial for corruption, but somehow still in office.

Its a sign of serious dysfunction.

Its not unique to Israel by any means; but it is perhaps more overt there just at the moment.

This echos some of what's been said here as well as the sentiments of many experts in the field. Despite many internet people's assertions that there is no way China would invade because it is way more difficult than invading Ukraine which has been a spectacular failure, Taiwan is far less prepared than Ukraine was.

They have less operational equipment, no war experience (unlike many Ukrainian soldiers who had years of experience in Donbass) little to no NATO training, and are just in a general state of unpreparedness.

Additionally, the US has virtually no intelligence apparatus in China unlike Russia so there is much less they can do on the intelligence front other than rely on satellite imagery and this article highlights the difficult for the US in assessing a Chinese military buildup for an invasion due to the military's use of civillian vessels.

Then there's also the fact that China's army is significantly more modern and well organized than Russia's and the strength of the Chinese Navy in particular is at the very least competitive with the US in the SCS now, which is a point of serious concern and not something Russia is remotely close to.

South Korea trying to aggressively attract more international students within the next several years:

Universities, business welcome government's plans to attract 300,000 foreign students by 2027

Universities outside of Seoul and companies with labor shortages are welcoming the Ministry of Education's plan to host more international students, while some are concerned about the plan lowering universities' admission standards.

The Education Ministry announced the Study Korea 300K Project on Wednesday, aiming to attract 300,000 international students by 2027.

There were 207,126 international students staying in Korea with the D-2, D-4-1 and D-4-7 student visas as of June, according to the Ministry of Justice. That's up 17.6 percent on year.

Two major goals of the plan are to attract more students to universities outside of Seoul and to support students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, by increasing the quota for government scholarships.

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) quota will be increased to 6,000 in 2027, compared to 4,543 last year. Among the total, the quota for scholarships for graduate school students studying STEM subjects will be raised to 2,700 in 2027, compared to 1,355 last year.
