When I speak of daily trains between somewhere like Sudbury and Toronto, people balk at it as if there is not enough demand. A map like this shows there is some demand for something. My hope isonce the Northlander is up and running and is shown to be worth having, the province looks at something to connect Sudbury to Toronto, even if it is through North Bay. The 69 Corridor may not warrant a train.

This has been interesting. In my admittedly non-consistent travels, I can detect no discernable pattern to the upgrade of crossings. I would expect something like south-to-north, north-to-south, important/higher volume first, important/higher volume last, or something, but it seems completely random. I guess its irrelevant; they will get done eventually.
 

Apparently these F59's are going to ONR to be refurbished to be used by GO transit? Really?
My theory on this is that they will run short trainsets along with refurb cab cars, but enough of them to allow MP40s and their cabs to be pulled off the line for ECTS installation and testing.

So this was their locomotive procurement? Not new ones?

It's probably going to take 8-12 months to see these in service. Unless it's not a full overhaul just some lipstick.

may speak to the available market options especially now both MotivePower (MP40) and GE (HSP46) are not offering passenger locomotives
 
I thought that MPI can still build the MP54?

I guess getting chargers has a backlog.
In theory yes but they would have to stand up a line in Erie since the Boise plant is gone. Also, you would have to wonder how busy is Cummins making QSK95s for Siemens (each MP54 requires two QSK60s)

Maybe we should find away to open a plant here where they can make them.The government does grants and low cost loans for other entities, why not this too?

Put two QSK95s in a new MP model. 8800hp, MPI88. Let's go!

That’s the 2 x QSK60 with no HEP engine, compared to the 4,000+1,000hp of the MP40 Tier 3. The thing is, MP40/54s are heavy by passenger locomotive standards - about 130 tonnes. That means more track forces, more wear and tear.

The nominal loaded weight of a Metra EMD SD70MAC locomotive is 415,000 lbs

Vs 289 000lbs for a mp40

Venture locomotive is 128 000lbs

So yeah they are double the weight of a conventional loco.
