First Trudeau is criticized for not securing vaccines ahead of other countries. Trudeau then announces that the vaccines are scheduled to arrive this month. And now, Trudeau is criticized for hoarding vaccines at the detriment of other countries. He must just throw up his arms sometimes and shout f#ck it.

Article?

The groups that accused Canada of hoarding seem to be unaware we plan on giving the vaccines to poor nations.

For free? How deep are Canada’s pockets? Why not just agree to release the contracts once they are deemed surplus to requirement?

Agreed. I am all for providing aid to foreign nations but honestly there is a global pandemic and this is the vaccine that allows life to get back to normal. Help the developing nations AFTER Canadians are vaccinated.

I there evidence that this isn't what's going to happen?

Another important file on Trudeau's desk.

Postmedia and other right wing media need to attack him. When their talking points are suddenly useless, they just make up new ones.

Chinese Canadian right-wing media are already attacking him by calling him corrupt and comparing him with a banana.

I'm saying that as an NDPer.

I listed to an eye-opening podcast on this subject a few months ago, about the sheer scale of the problem on social media. As I understand it, those working on this problem refer to it as child exploitation materials to avoid muddying the waters by calling it pornography. It is absolutely exploding beyond the ability of the networks or law enforcement to control it.

Thanks for sharing that. I listened from beginning to end. Many of us have seen horrible stuff online that we can’t unsee, a friend of mine stupidly viewed one of those jihadist murder vids and it’s rattled him. When he told us in our monthly guys night out, we all shared stories of the awful stuff we see online and how it’s affected each other. I told him to take his power back by reporting it, doing your part to fight it, rather than consume it. As for myself, I have filters on all our devices to reduce any such content getting seen by the family. But really the onus and culpability should be on the service providers, not the public, and Internet laws should be adjusted accordingly.

As for child exploitation, you’d think in these days of emerging quantum computers the internet utilizing AI could scan itself to find images without human eyes. I‘m glad Trudeau is going to take this on. I have to say, he’s been a good PM. Harper would have been okay through Covid and had a strong law and order bent that could have hit these porn sites, but Trudeau‘s been good. Of course Trudeau has benefited from the orange fool to the south. It won’t be so easy to contrast favourably once Biden and Harris take over.

The service provider can only do so much - is it reasonable to expect them to go through every minute of every single video. clip posted? There are also horror stories of the human toll of the workers tasked with this:

AI can only do so much - at the end of the day, the onus and culpability is on the posters. Anonymity is the bane of good behaviour so far as social media is concerned.
