Really? Harper visited the Whitby-Oshawa riding twice during the by-election to replace Jim Flaherty, during the last set of by-elections that occurred under his government.
 
It's cute that you think going to the riding to campaign three days before he called the by-election is somehow different that than campaigning in the riding after the call.

That article to which you linked also lists other by-elections in which Harper campaigned: Durham, Calgary Centre, and Vaughan. Looks like we're in agreement.

Yes, I do believe that having an opposition party or parties is part of a healthy democracy. Just look at the free ride Brad Wall has in Saskatchewan right now.
 
Bad example, because its remarkable how good of a job Wall has done with limited opposition.

Alberta (Prentice, Redford) would be better examples.
