Well a lot of politicians don't practice what they preach....

I think like dozens of ministers in the eu have been fired or chastised for breaking rules..
Trudeau went to a protest and was not social distancing.
Tory did not wear a mask when talking to people.
Nancy Pelosi lol

Even so we still need to follow the rules

Well we need to reduce the backlog of surgeries.

There are likely more people dying from not getting proper health care then covid 19 right now i think.

Surgeons do work on the weekend - emergencies only. In order to have a 7 day surgery schedule, Ford needs to understand he needs more surgeons and support staff. nurses, anesthesiologists, pathologists, Xray tech, cleaning staff and yes not the very least more operating rooms. Right now each surgeon is assigned a schedule depending on the availability of operating rooms. Urgent cases are priority elective surgery last. All depends on time, space and staff. Ford should stick to licking labels and keep his hands off our current system. Where you are thinking wrong is that not getting proper health care is responsible for more deaths than covid is misguided. People are dying from NOT seeking proper health care. Remote areas are notoriously under served and should be addressed.

Well people are not seeking care as many doctor offices are not fully open and specialist are not seeing people properly or in person as much...

Also most people feel doctor offices are full of germs.

The world is full of germs. Since "most of us" do not suffer from some sort of germ phobia it's not an excuse.

Dr. offices were closed but staff was present and a simple call or email can help to access the need for seeing a physician. It is not impossible to contact your doctor or healthcare provider and receive the care required. IF your doctor's office was closed with no one to help you, call Telehealth and entertain the idea of finding a physician who does not disappear from planet earth during a pandemic.

I was put on a 3-6 month waiting list back in January for an elective surgical procedure before Covid hit. Who knows how long it will take now. I'm very frustrated.

Personal experiences are all over the place. A friend is having a completely different experience ... her elective surgery has been moved up because others have cancelled, preferring to avoid hospitals. Both your and her experience are anecdotal, so it will be interesting to see data on this if and when it becomes available. I wonder if there are regional differences, or differences by type of surgery, doctor’s choice vs patient’s choice, etc.

Elective surgeries are also dependent on the surgeons schedule. Urgent surgeries are always given priority. Most plastic surgeries, i.e. minor reconstructive or vanity procedures not requiring an anesthesiologists are done in outpatient clinics. Ditto for all other minor procedures. Checking back with a friend, he informs me that any elective surgery not requiring hospitalization is going on as scheduled. All other procedures requiring hospitalization is considered on an emergency basis.

Ah, this could explain my friend. She is having a hip replacement using a new procedure that doesn't require hospitalization overnight -- although the procedure itself is done at a hospital.

I had a friend who had that last year. Amazing what they can do now.

My sister-in-law is having both knees done. She was pre-Covid scheduled for June and now it is tentative for Novermber. Small southern Ontario city.

You guys really need to stop shooting the messenger.

Its well known that non covid 19 er visits are way down and still are.

The issue is people avoid the doctor office now for minor thing that may in fact be a big deal.

Its a lot more of a hassle to get an appointment with your doctor with limited hours...no weekends or nothing after 4pm.

Now people go for the serious issue and a lot of time is lost.

So its not people acting "dumb"...its just people ignoring minor things due to all the issues due to covid 19.

Like my mom has a g tube...was a minor issue but she does not to visit a hospital due to covid 19and make someone take a day off as everyone employment is so uneasy right now.

After months the tube broke and had to take her to an er.

Now yes its mom fault but I think you can understand the issues going on.

Its a balancing act we need to play as we need people to not be scared to get minor things checked out.

No one is shooting the messenger, but if the message is incorrect it should be debated.
ER visits are down, as it should be and expected, it shows that people are simply assessing their needs for an emergency visit.
So you are aware of the hours your doctor's clinic has, you then can call back during office hours. If you are concerned about what your family's medical needs are address them, help them but don't ignore your needs. Ignoring a faulty medical device is not resolving the problem. Since it was your mothers choice not to address the problem during office hours, it was not the fault of the clinic or medical staff. Maybe if the fear of germs is severe enough to stop anyone from seeking medical care it should perhaps be addressed next time you (they) see a physician.

We are all guilty of ignoring our aches and pains that should be investigated - not just during this pandemic.
