Shake Shack opening new locations "this winter" in Yorkdale and at Union Station, the latter featuring a full bar. https://www.newswire.ca/news-releas...n-and-yorkdale-shopping-centre-801148372.html

I'm hoping they come closer to Yonge and Sheppard at some point (ideally for me Bayview Village, which has been lacking a burger place since the South St. location there closed a couple of years back).

I ate at Shake Shack yesterday for the first time. It was alright, it didn't live to the hype, but god damn it was so expensive for fast food. It was nearly $30 for a burger and fries and milkshake. I wouldn't go back. There is enough amazing independent burger places downtown, like Rudy, Matt's Burger Lab, or Mayday Burger.

Maybe that's why the lineups quickly disappeared...

100% agree with this comment!

On thanksgiving long weekend i spent $22 on a classic single smash burger, cheese bacon fries and lemonade at shake shack. The verdict: It was meh (5.5/10)! I think Rudy's and Burger Drop are better. The best option is to make them at home yourself!

I had shake shack in the states.... it was better there, also the burger seems to have gotten smaller!!?? Not a good or even okay deal at all when its now 30$ for a burger, fries and drink. In my opinion - Fresh Burger is much juicer, has bigger patties and better fries that don't fall apart.

I went to Shake Shack, looked at the prices, and walked away empty-handed. It’s too expensive for a chain restaurant. I can easily get a burger, fries, and shake that are cheaper, higher quality, and from an independent burger restaurant. To be honest, Shake Shack is truly overrated.

Oh, and Shake Shack asks me for an e-mail or text message for the receipt. No thank you.

Edit: Clarified

$30 is madness for anything served on a tray.

I'm pretty sure if you got a burger, fries and a milkshake at a place like Rudy's, or that new place by the Burger's Priest guy, the price would be about the same, wouldn't it? If it's not as good as Rudy's, obviously way better to support a local independent than a giant chain, but I don't think it's going to be any cheaper at the good independents.

The sort-of secret: Jaffna Street Food, a father-son duo specializing in Tamil foodYou may have heard of it if: You’re a regular at the Village by the Grange food court
But you probably haven’t tried it because: It just opened a few months ago

In the summer of 1983, anti-Tamil riots in Sri Lanka started a 26-year civil war that displaced thousands of people, many of whom came to Canada as refugees. Today, Canada has one of the largest Tamil diasporas in the world—around 237,890, according to the 2021 census—and half of them are in the GTA. In 2022, Heritage Toronto published a digital tour showcasing how Tamil refugees became the backbone of the city’s restaurant industry during the 1980s, staffing almost a third of kitchens. So why are there only a handful of Tamil restaurants in the downtown core?
