Deputy Mayor Stephen Holyday rises to say he will not support the TOCore plan for downtown Toronto. He is concerned about what the plan will mean for people from outside downtown travelling in via car.

There are (legitimate) reasons to oppose TOCore, but sure leave it up to Stephen Holyday to find and pinpoint the one item in the plan that was not a problem.

In fairness to Michael Thompson, he is trying to drum up business for the City and needs to travel FAR more than most Councillors - though why he thinks he is entitled to hotels costing $900 a night or spends $2000 on roaming charges is not quite so clear.

This isn't a big deal.

There are low-level sales reps who rack up higher travel costs than Councillor Thompson. The city has an operating budget of $11 billion. The film industry, for instance, bring in $1.3 billion to the city each year.

This is the cost of 'selling' the city.

I'm not judging Thompson's ability to sell the city. But as a business practice it is absolutely acceptable.

Only that he's been having that role with the city for a great number of years by now.

Ostensibly, he has formed contacts and connections over the years that has served the city well.

I think this is not that big of a deal compared to some of the other spending habits of councilors.

58-year-old cyclist killed in collision with flatbed truck at Bloor and St. George

A female cyclist has been killed after being hit by a flatbed truck near the Annex, police say.

Police were called to the intersection of St. George St. and Bloor St. W. around 12 p.m. Tuesday by the report of a collision between a cyclist and a truck.

In the last ten years, only 2015 saw more pedestrians and cyclists killed by this date, at 23.

At the public works and infrastructure committee on Tuesday, Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti said: “I do not believe bicycles should be on roads at all.”

The committee was debating adding bike lanes and cycle tracks in the northwest part of the city, including in the area near York University — what Mammoliti called a “downtown approach to the suburbs.”

Speaking to reporters later, Mayor John Tory called that kind of thinking “outdated”.

Mammoliti continues! “I was just waiting for this woman to get hit by a car when she was a zigzagging…” McMahon wants him to apologize. Mammoliti refuses. “It was a woman that was going to get killed because of her choice on how she was riding her bicycle,” he says.

Mammoliti, who never did apologize or withdraw his “looney” comment about the cyclist, goes on and on about how hard it is to be a car driver in this city.

The election is October 22.

The Chair accepted the Point of Privilege and requested Councillor Mammoliti to temper his remarks.
