Yes, the bridge actually starts a Housey. It didn't stop them from connecting Fort York Blvd to it though. They better get going on the new grading soon though or there will be an odd connection to the Garrison Condos. It would be sad if they put an at grade entrance off Bathurst only to be a few steps up from grade after they replace the bridge.

The whole intersection is to be lower 4-5' to match the east section including the exist Fort York Blvd ramp.

TTC has their eyes on the centre section for a new line to connect to Union Station in the east and Long Branch in the west. 514 is the plan route of a new Bathurst car that will service Union along this new line. Another mistake by TTC.

I somehow can't see the TTC building a new streetcar line anytime in the foreseeable future... even the East Bayfront/Portlands is looking less and less likely.

Now that the Library Condos are almost finished I see that they are tidying up the street outside (Fort York Blvd) just east of the Bathurst St Bridge. It is surely now time to connect this eastern stub of FY Blvd to Bathurst Street and to the section of FY Blvd west of Bathurst. Any ideas of when the City expects to do this, long-postponed, job?

Post Pan-am games isn't it? Didn't they want to make sure that Strachan and Bathurst weren't under construction over the tracks at the same time? Though now Dufferin is closed as well ...

At a meeting about the park that is going in beside the condo, Adam Vaughan indicated that the road would be opened this summer. So far, that obviously hasn't happened and summer is almost over ...

A plan (not detail I think) went to DRP in June 2008. (http://www.toronto.ca/planning/pdf/design_review/drp_agenda_june08.pdf) Unfortunately the minutes of that meeting are not online but it was not terribly well received as far as I know.
Before that in February 2008 they reviewed the bids for the $1.1 million design phase along with the construction phase engineering services. http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/2008/agendas/committees/bd/bd080312/it012.pdf

Other documents indicate this went to the bid committee in March 2008, and presumably was awarded. http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/2008/agendas/committees/bd/bd080312/bd080312.pdf

Presumably then, there are detailed engineering drawings locked away somewhere, given at that point, construction was to be completed in 2009.

The whole designed was scrap and a new one was develop and had to do to moving TTC tracks. Don't think detail drawings have been done for the new design yet so it can be tender again. Construction was to start in 2014, but the project is on hold until 2016/17 at this time unless something change soon.

With the Strachan grade separation taking place now as well the building of the new overpass, Bathurst has to remain open. Bathurst is supposed to be close for a year to rebuilt the new grade. Strachan and Spadina will take Bathurst load.

Metrolinx wants the new overpass built by summer of 2014 as they want the use of the current temporary road, so it can be use for the 2nd tunnel excavation.

The City has just (finally!) issued a tender call for engineering studies etc for the rehabilitation & replacement of the BATHURST STREET BRIDGE(S).

The call states that the TTC will replace the streetcar tracks on the bridge in 2018 and this work is to be coordinated with the bridge rehabilitation. Full details at: https://wx.toronto.ca/inter/pmmd/ca...F0056F506/$file/9117-16-5036 Viewing Copy.pdf

I wish they can just rip the entire thing down and build something suitably spectacular and forward looking, instead to make additional programmes fit into that truss bridge.

Ummm... no. This is one of the best bridges we have crossing the rail corridor. There are plenty others I'd rather see gone and replaced with something better before this one, and plenty of other areas where a bridge would be nice and where something suitably spectacular can be built.

(Not to mention the bridge itself has quite a history having been moved here from the Humber)

All it needs is some paint and some lighting to accent the trusses and it will be 'spectacular'.
