Well the highway would serve truck traffic too and help move goods faster. Not something to write off so quickly. What are the ridership projections for any kind of service to Bolton? Has Metrolinx studied this?
Bolton GO has pretty poor ridership projections from my understanding and would be quite expensive to implement - there is a reason that Metrolinx has been slow to implement.

GO Bolton ridership projections were only about 30 or 40 riders IIRC. However that was done using a non sensical routing along the CN Halton sub to hit the Go Newmarket sub and join the Barrie line, when they could just continue down the Macteir sub to meet the Kitchener line at Weston.

***EDIT***
It's nearly 10 years old and I was sure that GO had decided on the Halton routing, but I found this with a quick search. It indicates about 1,200 passengers in the AM peak combined from the new stations along this line. If they run 4 trains in the peak period that would be 300 passengers per train.

Vaughan seems to think this is a 427 extension project. The highlighted preferred alignment is not the same as MTO (which is that black interchange area with highway 427)

That black area is not actually the 427 interchange location, it represents any interchange. As shown here the black outlines are the GTAWEST/27 (full) and GTAWEST/Weston Road (partial) interchanges. All Hwy 427 extensions start at the SE corner of lot 66 (MMD/Hwy 50 where the current construction is ending).

It appears Vaughan prefers the northerly alignment option.

If trucks are the primary concern, just ban all cars from the center 2 lanes of highway 401 and call it a day. There's enough capacity in those 2 lanes to handle double our total trucking needs when cars are out of the way.

Moving goods is a side benefit that nobody (not MTO, Minister of Transportation, or Premier of Ontario) have as a priority over commuter traffic; nor will the 2% of our traffic that is goods be helped when the 98% of traffic grows to fill these new lanes.
Pretty sure you are wrong on all accounts. Trucks are generally 10-15% of freeway traffic and there is a reason virtually all jurisdictions worldwide do not permit trucks in the inside lane of 3+ lane highways.

Usually people overestimate the % of trucks in traffic.
If Trucks are 12.5% of traffic, and a Trucks are 20m long while cars are 4.5m long - it means that trucks actually take up 39% of the space on the road. Now not all trucks are 18 wheelers, but still, the amount of space taken up by trucks is larger than the numbers show.

King likely prefers the more southerly alignment.

Not directly GTA West related, but a Notice has been posted for the transmission corridor that would follow the proposed highway. Notice is on the Environmental Registry and asks for comments. Maps included.

New regulation posted for comment.

Proposed regulation for a streamlined environmental assessment process for the Ministry of Transportation’s Greater Toronto Area West Transportation Corridor project.

Would it make sense to toll single occupant vehicles on the 413 while letting commercial trucks and GO buses use it for free? This would relieve truck congestion at the 401-400 interchange, while restricting congestion from SOVs.

This project needs to die, forever.

The land for it needs to be sold off and/or turned into a provincial park!

The GTA needs another Highway like a hole it needs more pollution, poverty and homelessness.

The first key to making things better is to stop making them worse!

You might be interested in what Brampton City staff are proposing. They would like to see the GTA West through the Heritage Heights portion of Brampton be a boulevard instead of a 400-series highway.

Council workshop agenda location:

This concept needs to be endorsed by Council and then pitched to the Province.

There is a truck lane component in the staff proposal I posted in reply to @Northern Light below.

If we're not going to build any substantial new transit and road infrastructure, we need to find another way to deal with congestion. Perhaps one way could be a large scale and permanent shift toward work from home for as many people as possible. Office and "knowledge economy" jobs in particular lend themselves well to remote work. Indeed, most office work can easily be done from home (in my experience). There's no need to show up at the office five days a week. I'm sure most people and workplaces will be totally fine coming in maybe twice a week.

There's some interesting/amusing renders there with an ambition to create a Brampton version of the Champs'Elysees.

While better than the 413 as an idea; its still more sprawl; albeit prettier and denser sprawl.

Also they have a render of bikes and cars sharing the same space........that begs question.

But w/e, let's share the renders with folks.

The upper picture looks almost serene fro an urban setting.

I don't see a 100M wide ROW ever being pleasant to walk or bike along or cross. (at least when filled with 8 lanes of traffic and a bus way and parking.
