News Release

August 23, 2019

Closure of a section of Bloor Street West starts Monday as construction continues on reconfiguration of Six Points interchange

The one-block section of Bloor Street West between Kipling Avenue and Prennan Avenue will be fully closed for reconstruction until the end of December starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 26.

The work includes raising the road grade and widening this section of Bloor Street West, as well as installing sidewalks, bike lanes and underground services. This construction is the last phase of the City's work to transform the Six Points interchange from a highway-like junction to a community-centric Etobicoke Centre that will feature pedestrian-friendly intersections, boulevards, trees and bike lanes. Construction of the new interchange is expected to be completed in 2020.

During this full closure, road users are encouraged to use the following alternative routes:

• To access Kipling Avenue from eastbound Bloor Street West: Travel east on Bloor Street West, south on Aukland Avenue, east on Dundas Street West, and north or south on Kipling Avenue.

• To access Bloor Street West, west of Kipling Avenue: Travel north or south on Kipling Avenue, west on Dundas Street West, north on Aukland Road and east or west on Bloor Street West.

Signs will be posted to manage traffic in the area and to help ensure the safe travel of drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

A number of TTC and MiWay public transit routes that involve travel to and from Kipling Station may be affected by this work. You can visit http://www.ttc.ca or http://www.mississauga.ca/portal/miway for updated schedule information.

More information about the Six Points reconfiguration and new Etobicoke Centre is available at http://www.toronto.ca/etobicokecentre.

That closure will screw miWay 26 and 76 since they use Auckland to pickup riders from Kipling Station and go north on Kipling to Burnhamthorpe to go to Mississauga. Haven't seen any detour or route changes for those routes yet.

76 stays on Dundas, then up the 427 to Burnhamthorpe, so it shouldn't be affected other than any congestion....

26 could probably be sent up Shaver or something.

76 was supposed to be 20.

If the New Bloor road is open when the traffic gets move to the new northbound Kipling lanes, then 20 and 26 can use it and bypass Auckland. As for riders that use those 2 route, they either go to Islington or take 76 to connect with them.

Maybe the City of Toronto should designate Dundas Street West from the border with Mississauga to Six Points, and Bloor Street and Danforth Avenue from the Six Points to Kingston Road as City Road 5, after the old King's Highway 5, or City Road 2, after the TTC's Line 2.

The closing of Bloor/Kipling and shift traffic to the new northbound lanes for Kipling has no hope in hell happening on Aug 26, let alone the 30th. There is Far To Much Road To Be Pour as well curbs, but most of all, an east sidewalk.

Then there is the paving that's need to be done for the new lanes, but also on Dundas and the new Bloor St Extension. Hard to say if the New Bloor Extension will open when traffic is shifted at this time.

They have to pour a new curb for Dundas on the south side. Looks like they building a street off the New Bloor St on the north side with the curbs in place at Bloor. They still got to build the new street between Dundas and the new Bloor road as well the curbs off Bloor. Drainage grates still to be built and install along the new Bloor Extension.

They still got to finish rebuilding the Bloor/Dunbloor/Dundas intersection.

Give Guild Electric a hand clap as they finally got all/most new traffic lights in place and only for this project, but at Acorn new intersection for TTC. Did someone light a fire under their feet or did they hire more staff to get the work done???

All the new traffic lights have covers on them with OUT OF SERVICE printed on them. Something New.

All of Dundas road is completed up to the plaza old entrance/exit and waiting paving. Still have to build a road to the plaza, but the entrance on Dundas in place and not sure if another one is plan for an area since the curb is missing. Where the new Dundas stop by the plaza, the curb is about 2-3' off set to the south of the existing one. If you continue taking the curb west, will line up at Jopling Intersection.

Beamish Dr has been rebuilt and waiting paving. How it connects to Bloor is opposite of what was there before..

With the new Dundas Rd in place, you can see the new amount of land that can be use to build not only on Beamish, but the plaza area itself. Opens up the area to good redevelopment of the whole block now.

I am backlog on photos and offer a few of what I shot today and hope to have them up in a week or two down the road. They are about 3,000 in line.

Just looking at the photos, can't see The Bloor Extension being open for Southbound Traffic to make a left turn nor to make left turn off Bloor. The whole thing will be open when everything is done in Dec or early Jan 2020.

Time for the Drone Folks to shoot the area. Still got a lot of work to be done for the sidewalk and planters, as well bike lane. Hello 2020.

Off-street to on-street bike lane transition?

Kipling northbound lane was open to northbound traffic after 9 am with southbound still using the old southbound northbound lane. Southbound traffic is to move over to the new southbound lanes in the afternoon, but still hasn't when I pass it on my way home. Everything is setup now for the move and it can be happen now or after peak time.

The missing concrete for Kipling has been pour and now pave over and marked as single lane at the new Bloor intersection.

Bloor is to be open by Labour Day and 3/4 of it pave with no markings. Understand it will be a single lane until the fall.

Southbound traffic will be allow to make a left turn at Bloor and will backup traffic as there is no turning lane there like there is now at Dundas.

All of Dundas is now pave by the plaza, but not mark yet. Beamish Dr is pave and strip, but close at Dundas.

The new Dundas connection to Kipling was seeing concrete pour for the missing area as well the curbs.

The old Bloor eastbound lanes and sidewalk gone and work just starting to remove the westbound lanes while I was there.

Wrong on a few things, but being safe the way things has gone on this project.

The new east side bike lane in place on Kipling and waiting paving, as it will become the sidewalk until Dec/Jan.

You said the shifted to northbound lane wasn't happening the other day and it happened? Did they sped up work or you meant something else.

I said it wouldn't happen on Monday. As for this weekend, most likely not happen been on the safe side based on past track record. I had a feeling Kipling could be open this week depending how concrete was pour for the road and how fast asphalt was lay. They only pour Kipling and left Dundas for a later day that speed up to allow paving to happen sooner than later. They were doing it today.

I have no issue been wrong on this. As for extra manpower, no idea and they could have added a few more crew members to speed things up.

Have no idea how the Bloor will look on opening day, but assuming it will be a single lane in both direction with a left turn lane onto Dunbloor.

miWay detour notice was wrong from get go and no one was going to walk to that Kipling stop from Auckland that would be a 20 minute hike. Saw a number of riders waiting for routes 20 & 26 even though there were notices posted at the stop. Easy to catch 76 and transfer to 20/26 in Mississauga at the first stop or go to Islington to get those routes buses.

Just finish showing someone from out of town the interchange and traffic southbound still not shifted. Took a drive on it and the delay had to due with the sidewalk being pour on the east side, north of the Dundas cut off road. Looks like some paving still needed for the northbound lane. The Dundas cut off road and some curb pour so the rest of the work can take place after traffic starts using the northbound lane anytime.

Bloor is haft to 3/4 pave and will only see a single lane in each direction once it strip and open.

Traffic southbound is really going to get backup allowing left turn onto Bloor, as it was a bitch trying doing at Dundas today. Only could make my turn on the orange.

Not sure when westbound traffic be shifted to the new pave road to allow build the rest of the westbound lanes and turning lanes.

Has southbound traffic been move to the northbound Kipling lanes and Bloor St open??

Pass the area yesterday and still the same way as it was on Aug 30. Looks like the plan to have everything done by Labour day fail to happen.

Passed it this morning, and all traffic was using the new northbound lanes, with construction happening on the old southbound lanes.

What about Bloor St?? The southbound Shift either happen Tuesday or Wed, but most likely Tues. Most likely after they pave the bike path that will be use for a sidewalk until it get built.

They finished the south sidewalk west of Kipling by Friday when I saw it on Sun & Mon.

Also, they open an exit from the plaza to Dundas as well for the street going west only.
