Yeah, sadly there's zero chance of stepping down. Just, beyond zero.
I think his ballsiest political move would have been to do that Monday speech and then say all his junk about the gravy train BUT that he is resigning now. He's still running for re-election on Oct. 27 but, as a mea culpa, will step down for these last few months to concentrate on getting his life together so, come October, he will be in the best mental and physical shape of his life to fight for taxpayers etc.
Given that it's only a few months and nothing huge will come up at City Hall, it would have been a very easy sacrifice to lay at the feet of the voters but he (oh, and Doug!) are utterly incapable of seeing:
a) How well that would have played as PR
b) That sometimes you have to give something to get something
Despite all his talk about understanding his triggers etc. he cannot let go of the reins Mommy said were his to hold, and would rather hang on for dear life for these last pathetic months than do just one noble thing, gambling it will get them "Ford More Years." Obviously he should have resigned over a year ago, were he a normal person, but even doing it Monday would have shown some REAL understanding of what he's done to this city, while still allowing him to maintain campaign momentum (and effectively use his last turn at the mayoral podium to relaunch his campaign with vigor).
