Isn't he the greatest?

“Anybody who doesn't know that politics is crime has got a few screws loose.”

"I learn things late-and only the hard way.”

IMO, Ellroy is the greatest living American writer. You can stuff your Franzen's and Foster-Wallace's in the closet. Even your goddamn McCarthy's, Auster's and DeLillo's (well, maybe not him). Better hide 'em. Fast. Like now, daddy. Jimmy's coming to get 'em. He's old, but he's swinging something terrible. With a screw, or a few, loose. There will be blood.

ETA: Even JE couldn't conjure the specter of the possibly terminally ill ex-mayor escorting the gullible to the polling place. Canadian Tabloid as the New Normal.

Doug was so much louder than everyone else. Not sure if he was just bellowing or if he was speaking closer to the mike than the rest.

Interesting that after Doug said he'd march in the Pride Parade, Iola switches to abortion as her big issue.

So Doug loves art. No really, he loves art. He goes into art stores. He has art everywhere. There is an art room at Deco. He manages to say art about 50 times in one minute. You know, art, like civil war pictures and stuff. Yet, he cannot name a single artist.

Art *stores". By which he means, maybe, stores where you go buy art, as opposed to Curry's or Gwartzman's or whatever...

It is also something that the city can do nothing about, because it is a federal issue...

He means those stores in the mall with all the novelty rec room paintings. I call them Scarface stores, because that's what half the prints they sell seem to be.

Yes but voting for him will not help. A vote for Chow is a vote for Doug Ford right now. Call me a strategic voter. I call myself a realist. Time to get rid of the Fords. Not a time to gamble.

"Gambling" of this sort should never be required. Vote for who *you* want to lead, not most likely to win. Instead of strategic voting, push (as many have) for ranked ballots. Contact your MPP about stricter penalties and clarifications between the City of Toronto Act and the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. Press higher level governments to give power to the law to protect us from another Ford.

This is how you govern against thuggery, dishonesty and corruption. Voting strategically for someone you'd not normally vote for does nothing to forward your own interests as a citizen. Strategic voting makes a mockery of democracy.

I think it's only a matter of time before Toronto creates an official mayoral residence. We already have them at the federal and provincial levels.

Even Detroit has Manoogian Mansion, official residence of the Mayor.

"...a wild party involving strippers at the Manoogian Mansion, the city-owned residence of the mayor of Detroit."

Sounds like quite the party pad!

If DoFo were in charge, it'd look like this

I stand corrected...My version comes from grandmother, everytime we passed the park while on the Queen/Long Branch car she'd tell the story..she never tired of telling her version to whoever would listen....

Don't be too quick to concede the point; the citation still doesn't answer the question of whether there were conditions tied to Toronto electing a *Jewish* mayor.

That's gratitude for you, even Leon isn't going with Doug, so all he's got is Mammo. Guess that will have to be enough of a team when he wins. Hahaha.

Cllr Peter Leon (who was appointed by council & not running for re-election) is endorsing John Tory on Friday morning

Thanks for agreeing with me. :)

Not many out there see strategic voting for what it really is.
