Very short photo update of Albert Campbell Square (in front of Scarborough Civic Centre) and the buildings that surround it (ie. the Equinox towers)

The first business opened in the base of the Equinox towers facing Campbell Square... a rehab clinic

...so two equinox towers have already been built, and the new ones still to come are named eq1 and eq2? do I have that right?

Even though its just finished, the landscaping (if you can call it that) and detailing look like this development was done in 1972 (vast empty spaces of interlocking brick, painted steel decorations and small potted plants in concrete containers). What a horror show.

That is correct, interchange.

There is an advertising board at the bus platform at Scarborough Centre Station that shows a rendering of the two towers together.

Couldn't they call them eq3 and eq4 just to avoid this confusion (that I'm having, although others might not be)? Why don't they check these things with me first? Who's running this town?

The landscaping shown in the pictures IS from the 1970's because it is part of Albert Campbell square and not part of the Equinox development. The condo's are filling in the edge of the existing landscaped square which was previously bordered by just empty fields.

I get the feeling that map was never up to date. Consilium 1, 2, 3, 4, and 3?? The area definitely looks dated and a little uninviting around that map... I hope it is well lit at night. I hope the SRT is replaced by a subway and that area gets a revamp.

The sign for the 'Town Center Rehab Clinic' actually said 'Town Center Pehab Clinic' when it was first put up...they fixed the P but left centre as center, probably because they didn't use a Cantonese to Canadian English dictionary.

"The area definitely looks dated and a little uninviting around that map... "

Oh, that's probably the most inviting place in the whole area, and I'm being honest. The awfulness at the base of the Equinox condos has to be seen to be believed...Monarch built good houses but is clueless in this department. Everything else is either empty land or parking lots or is inaccessible in some way. The TTC trench and McCowan highway really slice up the area, not that there's anything to walk to. Everything you might walk to is within 5 seconds of the RT station.

Too bad Moriyama & Teshima didn't get a chance to really see their plan for the whole area come alive. STC really needs a library and something at street level other than parking lots, offices that clsoe at 5pm, and condo amenities complexes. Everything is so randomly placed now that it's all kind of hopeless, even though half the land is still unoccupied. The complete and utter lack of an appropriate street layout and pedestrian scaled *anything* might be too much to overcome. Some residents of the condos close to Brimley & Ellesmere actually take the Brimley bus to the station rather than walk because the <5 minute walk is so painful. I had moderately high hopes for the area even just a year or two ago, but all the big box stores and the horrible condos that have just gone in have ripped the hopes out of me. Oh well, the quicker Scarborough dies, the sooner we can raze it all and start over.

Sir Novelty Fashion: :lol What an interesting comment!

I have the impression that there is no master plan in effect for this area, and things are seemingly just plunked down somewhere, without reference to the surroundings. This happens far too often in Toronto. Maybe there's still time to pull together something coherent in this area, although Scarberian doesn't seem to think so.

Sir Novelty Fashion:

thanks for the quick trip back to Constable's bucolic Suffolk countryside, but Scarborough ain't all that. I'm jes sayin that for any lack of there there in The Haywain, it's a whole lot more appealing than SCC to the point where I can't really make the connection.

Precisely. Whoever did those renderings really seemed to have Suffolk in mind more the Scarborough.

High-larious! (as C M Burns would say).

I hadn't given the actual rendering a second look. I trained myself to ignore the project's surroundings on those things years ago when all the Etobicoke waterfront buildings were sold as if there wouldn't be another human for miles.

Thanks for the knock to the skull, it needed a little wake-up.
