So can anyone explain to me why there were so many panties in a knot over the office building the Church of Scientology is re-cladding, but nothing over this one that Cresford is tearing down?

The Scientology building is beautiful to me, whereas this one seems a lot more perfunctory.

There's something "delicate" about the Scientology building which I've always really been drawn to. It has much nicer proportions than this building.

I think the apathy also has something to do with the unsympathetic window renovations this building wore for the last decade or so. When compared with the original, delicate, single-pained, operable windows on Scientology, it's not entirely hard to see why there are few tears shed for this one (not that there shouldn't be, it's one of a dying breed. But let's not open that can of worms here, the Mirvish+Gehry thread is already sufficiently off-the rails).
