If the purpose of the upper glass clad office component was to disappear and blend into the sky, while leaving the historical street facades to shine, then the building succeeded.

And if it was not the intended purpose, I just found the design's best justification. ;)

That is a strip of light going all the way across each of the entrances.

I wonder if the actual Office-building entrance component is meant to be a nod to modernist Toronto (50's/60's)? Otherwise I have a hard time understanding it.

Those are great observations; can't say I believe they are successful in my eyes, if that is what they were after

//

I see workers on the terraces every other day for an entire year now... Nothing changes, and there was never any real work that was observable. It's maddening. Just a few guys in safety vests endlessly walking around, looking at the odd thing here and there, and some imperceivable work being done to the actually floor section (for a year.....)

^^^ Well, at least the doors on the terraces are installed now. Until recently, they were all plywood.

The painters are almost finished with the new mural.

I like how it’s almost translucent with some construction in the background but yet they still managed to capture 55 Front St. and their green roof;
Gooderham in the background. How appropriate.
Redpath Sugar
The yellow ship’s crane
The green Repath crane (why didn’t they make it red)
Sugar Beach
The Island trees and also reflecting back on the harbour
A little artistic impression of the sky or maybe that‘s the Leslie spit. Hard to tell for sure.

I like how they added Captain John’s in the middle just below the swing stage.

I wonder if they will post a little Google image in the top corner?

June 25. New window openings in the old Tom Jones.

I think these are just old window-openings re-opened ; I guess we will soon see if they will do something similar to Leader Lane side. but I must say the outside of this building is a real mess and the inside seems to be all removed and replaced. Do they intend to rebrick it properly, add stucco, add EFTS or just repaint? This is a Streetview from 2019.
