In general, for any residential construction building in Toronto at least, for people who don't know: If you can get a hold of a hard hat and steel toe boots, you can walk around the site freely during construction hours and nobody will hassle you. Better to perhaps walk at a brisk pace because if you mill around slowly you will stand out.

Lots of non-construction workers are on construction sites all the time ... like management, office personnel, delivery-people, engineers, etc. Just because workers don't recognize you doesn't mean they won't just assume you are on the site for some reason not related to their own precise trade.

What a foolish piece of advice to give to someone else, let alone yourself. You can't just walk around a construction site with no knowledge of what is going on around you. Good God...
 
update

Had a chance to pass by today. Lots of work activity happening on CASA with very little at BSN. They were pouring cement on the 41st story but had started building the forms for the 42nd floor. Talked to the concrete guys and they mentioned that it will take a little longer than a floor per week now as they have to lay out the forms differently for the penthouse units. I too was told that if I put on a pair of workboots and a hardhat, I would be able to go up and have a look. This was offered freely to me without me asking. I don't think I would want to do that unless I was escorted up by someone. You never know, I might just try that next week sometime.

My camera does not take the quality pictures I've been seeing on this thread but I did manage to get a reasonable shot from the CN Tower today. I've indicated CASA with an arrow.

I'm having trouble understanding the logic of that. Why would workers put themselves on the hook for your safety unless they were getting commission on selling you a unit?

You're right CASA guy. I wouldn't dare go up unless the super or someone escorted me. I count the new flooring to be the 42nd.

Has anyone come across any information on the upper floor suites yet? I'm dying to see what the layouts are like from the 42nd-46th floors.
 
not likely, I live in the area and see nothing but no-gooders (wow, I'm officially old) over there. from Wellesley up to Charles...nothing but weirdos hanging out in those parks

I'm not singling you out JayBee, I'm just using your post as a reference.

I photographed these parks on April 18th and not a "weirdo" or "no-gooder" in sight. Just neighbourhood types enjoying a walk through these areas on a warm sunny day, dog walkers and the like.

I just received a letter from CASA in today's mail...I am a little confused by it.

It is dated April 22nd and mentions that the concrete had just been poured on the 41st floor. Leading to the assumption that we may well be up to the 43rd now. Also mentioned that as of April 22nd glass is up to the 33rd floor and that all the kitchen and suite finishes have arrived and are working their way up the tower.

THEN it goes on to say that the tentative closing has been moved to December 1st. I can understand moving in later than the original date of August that they gave me...but the way I see it my 10th floor unit according to them has been finished and if it hasn't it will be very shortly. And according to them the crane will be out by the end of July and likely all the glass will be completed. So if come August there's no more crane, the hat is complete and all the glass has been completed as well as my 10th floor unit....why would I not receive keys until December 1st? That's 4 months! Unless they plan on completing all of the units before allowing anybody to move in?
 
Just spoke to Ryan @ Casa.

He told me that the December 1st date is the move in date. He also confirmed that units on the 6th floor are fully complete but that they're not exactly "demo" units. The reason why it will take so long to move in is due to the elevators. He says they plan to move the entire building in between December and January. So I guess I'll have to wait longer to move in...but at least it will be a near complete building around that time too versus moving into what can tend to be a still under construction site for over 6 months.

I'd rather have the delayed occupancy.
That way you're not paying the phantom mortgage longer than you have to before the building gets registered.

I agree...despite being antsy to move into my new address...it's a total waste of money to pay 6 months rent to the builder to live in a building that's under construction with possibly no amenities.

I received the same letter today but with a move in date of Jan 15th due to a higher floor I suppose.
 
agreed on the posts above. I'd be thrilled to be in a situation like that. The less phantom rent the better.
 
Something tells me that they are going to fully furnish the penthouse units on one floor and put them up for sale at that point.

A couple reasons why I think this: They have yet to put them up for sale and we're talking 6 more months until the building is done. The views in all penthouse units will be spectacular and the building itself will be a looker when it's all done. I believe they will be a much easier sell when a potential buyer can physically be in the unit and see the amazing views enhanced by the floor to ceiling glass and 10' ceilings. And I believe the folks at CASA would realize this too. I'm no expert but it's just a hunch. I guess all this increases the chances for painted balconies I hope.
