^^ Yes the "forms" for the foundation have been put in... probably because GO is doing construction on their underpass in the vicinity.

Anyone know the latest on this? Been trying to find out if the bridge is a go or not....Thanks,

The two center piers have been in for a while (see below) and do they ever look so sexy for urban infrastructure in 2010. Concord is leaving some forms in place on the south side for the bridge connection. No construction of any kind on Front Street yet. I suspect a spring start to this. It would be silly to start now.

This is certainly NOT a no-go. The foundation work is in place on the cityplace side and the erection of the bridge will likely coincide with the completion of the second parade tower since the path of the bridge travels over it's parking structure. It would also be impractical to bring pedestrian traffic so close to an active construction site.
I'm surprised this topic gets so little attention on urban toronto, as the impacts of this bridge are much greater to the dynamics of the area than a new building (unless you happen to live in the new building).

Thanks for the info. The Bridge has definitely not been overlooked on UT, considering that several of us UT members orchestrated the Railway Lands Pedestrian Bridge Design Charette in the spring of '09. Although that was focused on the design of the bridge itself, it was derived from the importance the bridge will have in terms of connecting the neighbourhoods to the north of the railway tracks with CityPlace and waterfront beyond, and vice versa. The layers of bureacracy in getting the bridge built will make you pull your hair out, even more so if you were actually involved in getting it built. Concord is required to build it and they've been waiting to build it for several years as it was written into the purchase agreements when they bought the land, and even in the condo agreements when West One (iirc) was completed several years ago. The optics of the bridge being completed with the second Parade tower look good, but that was not part of the original bridge construction schedule.

It's good to hear the foundation work is in place on the CityPlace side. That and the foundation for the centre support pillars within the tracks. Next should be the foundation on the Front Street side and hopefully the actual bridge. Hopefully we will actually be able to use the bridge in 2011.

Word from Councillor Vaughan,

The bridge is going to be built this June. It will be assembled in the rail corridor, and then lifted into place.

Hahaha, Just like that..a bunch of chicken wire put together, throw a couple colums and hey, we got a bridge..LOL:eek:

As promised, the bridge construction has begun!

Looking out my window, there are crews clearing the rail yard of spare track, some are working on the retaining wall by the bridge footings, others are on the Front Street side where the bridge will meet Front, and then there are trucks along Front unloading concrete barriers to divert traffic around the bridge construction.

Woohooo!
