It's gonna be a rough year or two for people who make a living out of taking skyline shots of Toronto... with FCP being undressed. I think everyone should take a 2 year hiatus.

Only two floors at a time are being changed out on the tower portion so it shouldn't be too unsightly.

I think a tower undergoing renovation is a lesser eyesore than a tower in desparate need of renovation.

I heard on the news tonight that something fell off the 42nd floor during construction... I'll look into it but this reminds me of the incident where a piece of marble fell off a few years ago!... I don't think anyone was injured :)

Tool drops 40 storeys, smashes atrium window

Web Staff, cp24.com

A skylight was smashed in the atrium of First Canadian Place on Thursday afternoon when a construction worker dropped a tool from 40 storeys above the ground.

It came loose from a wrench while workers were assembling a scaffold on the 42nd floor of the downtown skyscraper. The socket bounced about 25 metres when it first landed and then hits a glass roof.

No one was injured. The accident occurred after the lunch hour so the area was less populated than it is at other parts of the day.

Officials with Ellis Don Construction are still investigating the incident. The company also says it plans to add additional layers of protection to the building to ensure no more windows are broken.

its actually surprising this sort of thing doesnt happen more often... I drop stuff constantly when I am doing home renos.

42 stories? maybe someone below asked the question what's the meaning to...

quite incredible a socket dropped from the 42nd floor broke a skylight window on a bounce shot.

I've seen a broken drill bit dropped 15 feet that broke a window on a ricochet. Sometimes it's just luck, depending where you hit the glass
