Yes, it does look like a Traynor render! I still can't believe that they got away with this height here, but good for them.

Ya know...

Today from Yonge, s. of St. Clair

For all the complaining about Uptown? In this pic it looks as good or better than everything else, ....it looks like it's been there for ever as part of the old stock of towers.... Four Seasons is the new breed, and a beast when you see it from the north!!

The floral glass is up at those entrances facing Yorkville Ave. and presumably the ones on Bay St. too. Looks gorgeous.

jetsblack:

OT - Uptown looks better? It's already not a gem, and in 20 years time (wait, make it 10) it will look more like Hudson Bay. If you want non-glass goregous, take a pointer from 1 St. Thomas in the pic - now that's a tower I don't mind having at the same height.

AoD is deadly accurate. Uptown looks like a Las Vegas casino hotel mock posing as the real Uptown in a city that demands better buildings in its best locations.

Too bad 1 St Thomas is so short, how can you love what you cant see???

I said Uptown looks as good or better....The Bay , CIBC, ?? Manulife?? Come on, Uptown in that pic look like a vintage tower, and the missing detailing ain't a factor from this far away!

..AS far as any comparison to Vegas/..Shame on you, that town is the phoniest on the planet. (At least up until Dubai) Now if Uptown were a bad replica of a real landmark else where, and was fastened at the hip to three other replica's , and had purple fountains, and ballerinas on the rooftop, I could see that . But as is ...it's a faux deco residence that I, would be happy to call home.
Having never seen it in person, I can only imagine how terrible it must be up close... the pre fab panels must look incredibly cheap.. Too bad, the design is fine, just a cheap execution!

Yeah, there's not much of it in that photo. It is a great tower by a big name in architecture, Robert Stern. When name-dropping international architects who have recently done work in Toronto, he's typically forgotten. Yet he's one of the few international architects to design a Toronto condo in the recent boom.

Personally, I prefer CIBC and Manulife to Uptown. Both CIBC and Manulife are better detailed than Uptown (Manulife being the better of the two) and have better cladding. They're sleeker and bolder, though still not quite my favorite towers in the city.
