Just heard on the morning news that Duke's Cycle has approval to build and that Crate & Barrel will be going in at Queen & Bathurst

Major chain stores will bookend the block. The Big Bop, the all-ages concert hall at Queen and Bathurst streets that hosted early Billy Talent and Alexisonfire shows, is being converted to the first Canadian location of CB2, Crate and Barrel's urban furniture and decor store. The store is scheduled to open in early 2011, said Vicki Lang, manager of public affairs for Crate and Barrel and CB2.

“[Queen West] is clearly an area that's in transition, but it's got a great heritage and we like that,” Ms. Lang said, adding the company intends to respect the character of the Big Bop building so it won't be “a big sore thumb” in the neighbourhood.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the new Longo's at Yonge and Bloor (well, Bloor and Park Rd, really) has a sign in front saying it's opening on March 3 (tomorrow).

The Mini Downtown dealership vacated their location on King St. West near Spadina earlier in the week:

Their new location is across from the BMW dealership in Riverside: http://www.minidowntown.ca/ContentServ?section=ABOUTUS&wcid=276&name=New Home

Too early to start a thread but the north west corner of Yonge & McPherson in Rosedale may finally be getting developed.

The word on the street is that The Bay is/may be closing down at Yonge & Bloor....and secondary to this is that an unknown department store is looking for large space along Bloor St W (not sure if it's a US or Canadian retailer).
Can anyone shed some light on this?

That's been the word on the street for years and I'm surprised the Bay hasn't bit the bullet and just closed the store down, when in fact they've done the opposite, with some minor renovations taking place on the lower mens floor in the past several months. Even during the Christmas shopping season, the store was not all that busy by downtown department store standards.

What I've heard is that the closure decision is very real and imminent though.
