Span of 2 Years

Here is a series of shots from 2011, 2012 and of this morning. Most of the changes occurred in the past 6 months of course.

Pictures don't give this project justice. It's crazy to see this corner of Yonge/Bloor rise above three/four stories again.

^ What was here before this construction site?

A gross old retail building with a Harvey's and a busted up optical store. I can barely even remember it now.

Save the Harvey's sign! Yea thats right, make them protest and chant "stick a big orange Harvey's sign on this curvy Hariri Pontarini design!"

Roy Square was one of the only interesting parts of that building. It was a laneway off of Bloor Street that had been converted into a patio. There were a couple of old buildings facing Yonge that were architecturally decent originally (from the Victorian era or the early 20th century) but they were not deemed to be heritage buildings and demolished for this development.

And a significant building on Hayden Street.

One Bloor replaced this grouping of buildings:

But also more interestingly enough, a small experiment in laneway reuse:

In this case, I think the tradeoffs are good enough, unlike the Mirvish-Gehry project which will replace much larger buildings and is highly, highly susceptible to the Cheapening effect.
