Cool, I work right across the street from this site. I should be able to post updates on a frequent basis. The building's fully intact at the moment, not much progress thus far.

Have a closer look. The top has already been lopped off, with a big pile of bricks on the north side.

I drove up this site on hwy 427 today and saw an demotion happening at the top.
It seems i saw a machinery a the top level. whether it's there or not, just wonder how do they knock down the building?

The excavator with the ten storey boom topped by a pulverizer is far more effective than a wrecking ball. There shouldn't be anything left by next weekend.

Are they not allowed to use explosives to demo buildings in the GTA? I know that One Valhalla is not a large building, but for instance the old Four Seasons building. Would it be more practical and faster to use explosives to demo that building rather than using a crane?

The interior demolition is where the time is used up and its the same whether the structure is to be imploded or not. Taking down the 13 storey structure is a matter of days in both cases. Demo by detonation is hugely expensive. It's certainly not worth it in this case.

Detonation is the preferred method for demolition post-tensioned structures. The stretched cables can let loose at any time. As far as I know, Toronto doesn't have any.

Well years ago they used explosives on the demo of the CNE Exhibition stadium..nothing since, so i dont know if they have changed the by-law on using explosives for demolition

Quite right. It took almost no time at all for the first Regent Park South tower to come down.

I am over in this area every 2 weeks now and will try to keep update photos of the work. I left the camera at home the last time I was here which happen to be a nice day. A few drops hits the lens on this visit.
A few more weeks tell she down
