Half a dozen people were out on Corktown Common today, despite the snow and ice and wind.

Does anybody know what those oval portions on top of the buildings are for? Will they be for amenity spaces, penthouses or HVAC units? Most of the condo buildings in the Pan-Am Village seem to have them.

Those blocks to the left, are they going to build before pan American games begin, or they will develop later after the game ends ?

I think that one doesn't come until afterwards. They're putting a visitor's centre on that parcel for the Pam Am Games.

I love how generous the public realm is in that rendering, with the midrise buildings providing an excellent sense of enclosure. It's refreshingly different from our standard main street configuration of 4 car lanes and two sidewalks that never feel generous or open like in this rendering. That most of our streets have the same width and ratio of pedestrian to vehicle space is boring. The streetscape in that rendering looks like that of a European city.

It's remarkable to see this considerable waterfront renewal project come to life. Perhaps they could incorporate the old warehouse buildings on the Mirvish-Gehry site.

Have 'em airlift the Princess Of Wales Theatre down here while they're at it. (sigh) Actually, I don't find the notion of moving the warehouse facades too far fetched at all. In a town that still hasn't met a facadectomy it doesn't like, why isn't it an option when it could actually be a saving grace?

Movie theatres would be especially nice throughout this area, and help out just about everyone east of Yonge. Those little rainbow cinemas at St. Lawrence Market don't cut it.

Waterfront Toronto used to announce that Cherry Street between Front and Lake Shore and Old Eastern Avenue would reopen in "summer 2013", then it became "fall 2013" - neither is yet open. Anyone taking bets?

Just saw the November minutes of West Don lands Committee where it says:

The crews are working hard to finish the road and public realm from Cherry Street from Lakeshore Blvd to Eastern Avenue. Trees have been planted on both sides of the street and a few of the street lights are operational. However, because of the major changes to the street, there is a city conveyance process that must be completed before Cherry Street can be reopened. Dundee/Kilmer/WT/IO are working with the city to get this done as soon as possible but a firm opening date has not been confirmed.
DK has submitted all conveyance documents with the city third party reviewer. Final submissions and signatures will not take place until March 2014.
The stretch on Mill street south of Cherry including intersection does not need conveyance so they are making the effort to open it soon.
