Hmm. It's certainly shown on the GTAA's terminal map but the escalators seem to go nowhere. As there's no matching escalators on the other levels of the terminal. That it leads to a hallway under the terminal makes me think that it's for access to the post security area.

Those escalators (shown next to the elevators) take you to an underground passage, which leads you to the parking garage. A nice way to avoid the often chaotic surface crossings.
 
Someone brought up an interesting point on SSP about HSR and Pearson in that it would reduce the number of short haul flights thus freeing up slots for longer flights. Seen this way the cost is a bit more reasonable!
 
Looks like Cathay is almost doing 3 daily starting next March.

Expanding our international air transport travel relationships with other countries provides Canadians with greater choice and more convenience. Canadians want and deserve options for their international travel needs.
Today, the Honourable Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport, announced that Canada has recently expanded its air transport agreement with Australia.
The expanded agreement includes an unlimited number of direct passenger and cargo flights and enhances operational flexibility for each country’s airlines. It also includes access to any point in the other country’s territory. This is a significant expansion of the agreement and is expected to meet the needs of this important bilateral market for the long term.
This expanded agreement was reached at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation Event, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Over the course of the event, the Canadian delegation of officials from Global Affairs Canada, Transport Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency held several productive meetings with their international counterparts to conclude this agreement and facilitate the negotiation of future agreements.

I'm not sure there will be much immediate impact from this deal, as neither Qantas or Air Canada really have enough spare widebodies to increase service much (even from Vancouver Australia is really far from Canada so any service will eat a lot of frames). Maybe we'll see one of the two add more frequencies to Vancouver from non SYD airports (MEL especially).

Always wondered why this wasn't already a thing with these countries sharing a head of state and being commonwealth countries.

The UK essentially treats travelers from Canada and U.S. the same. Makes you wonder as a Canadian what the point of being part of the commonwealth is nowadays.

I looked at visiting Australia next year but the cost was almost $5000 return in economy.

Factor in everything else and it is a pricey vacation from Toronto.

What time of year where you looking at doing this trip as it was only costing me under $5000 each for 5 air flight with layovers in various cities?? There is 2 type of economy class with the upgrade being $3500 more. I was also doing New Zealand as well by the way of Dallas and coming back by Vancouver

I looked at doing the trip in early 2025, but has been pushed to 2026 now and may go business class that will be an extra $5000 per person, 22 plus hours is a long time sitting in a seat each way.. The longest flight has been to Roma so far with Glasgow been the 2nd one.

June. 5000 return.
 
Went through T3 international arrival last week. Haven’t used it for years and it’s a mess.
The whole arrival level is in desperate need of an update (it’s especially jarring when flying back from Asia).
It was a good intention for them to add some CBSA computer terminals in the arrival hallway (level 1?) but it actually created total chaos as passengers are unaware that there are more terminals downstairs at the actual immigration area. And they only put one employee there to direct the passenger. You can imagine the amount of yelling she had to do. Not exactly great first impression for visitors. (Sorry no photos. Didn’t want to get arrested by CBSA).

Departure was no better with the last round of reno already looking very dated. They have removed all the iPad (it was a dumb idea demo day 1) but all the dining tables are still there. They take up so much space and forced a lot of the queuing right into the walkways.
The OG tiled flooring really needs to go.
