Well, there's no point in extending it until the Jane LRT is built and that is the last line to be built in the TC schedule, (if it even gets built at all).

The Townsley Loop (Old Weston & St. Clair) is no longer a streetcar loop, but a bus loop. So the Gunns Loop could become a short-turn loop, should the St. Clair streetcar ever finally be extended to Jane Street or Scarlett Road (or beyond).

That's fine and all, but is it a priority now?

Yes!!!

The new cars will no fit into the existing one. Also, since St Clair is getting rebuilt west of Gunns Rd, cheaper to allow for the extension now than later.

I recently saw that the tracks are now finished going south from the loop to eastbound St. Clair. Still to be connected to the rest of the finished tracks east of Gunns. However, I am surprised that there is no tailtrack to west of the Gunns Loop. I had expected to see some sort of storage tracks in a short new median west of Gunns Loop, but there are no switches or tracks put in. The roadway is wide enough to allow for it.

Wouldn't it save some money to put in the switches and tracks at this time, for a provision of any sort of extension of the 512 St. Clair to Runnymede, Jane, or Scarlett Road? Even if not used for an extension, they could have been used for storage of streetcars or LFLRV's for the time being.

The word is, service to Gunns Loop will or could be a week or 2 late going into service due to the overhead issues.

No idea why it taking so long to get the overhead up considering Phase IV was to be up months ago as far as Old Weston Rd.

I can see some extra time for Oakwood Loop since it a new style and learning on the job for it. It supposed to be the same system for Gunns and one hope crews learn from their Mistake with Oakwood for it to speed things up.

Art work is about to go up on the shelters.

Some type of formal/official opening of the whole ROW is to take place after it is up and running, but when is unknown.

Other than Phase I, the overhead for the other phases can be use for Pantograph when TTC decide to move to it.

Streetcars to Gunns by July 5

I haven't been following this thread for a bit so maybe this is old news. The July 5'th date comes from this article posted on thestar.com today.

TTC still using St. Clair as a work yard, say merchants

After years of construction on the streetcar right-of-way, businesses say they’re still struggling

When the dust cleared in front of their little shops and restaurants, the business owners on St. Clair Ave. west of Caledonia Rd. heaved a sigh of relief.

Merchants figured their businesses would finally enjoy a revival this year, after more than five years of watching customers bypass their construction-locked neighbourhood as the TTC built its controversial St. Clair streetcar right-of-way.

But that’s not happening, and the St. Clair Gardens Business Improvement Area (BIA) now is accusing the TTC of killing what’s left of their enterprises by treating the neighbourhood as a work yard.

The right-of-way, still not in use as a streetcar path, is cluttered with trailers, heavy equipment, trucks and lines of private vehicles owned by construction workers who are installing a turnaround loop to the west at Gunns Rd.

“People cannot see us. It looks like we’re still under construction, and we’re paying taxes,†said Rose Signorile, who runs Quality Paint & Wallpaper Supplies with her son, Rocky Signorile.

Business is down about 70 per cent from what it used to be and, after 38 years on St. Clair, the only reason her store survives is because the family owns the property, she said.

BIA chair Don Panos, owner of Don’s Wholesale Meats, figures he’s lost 10 to 15 per cent of his business. After years of having a hard time traversing St. Clair, customers “don’t feel motivated to come here,†he said.

City Councillor Cesar Palacio (Ward 17, Davenport) says he’s suggested the TTC use an old work yard nearby on Old Weston Rd. to store its equipment and machinery.

The debate about whether the right-of-way is a good idea is over, he said Friday.

“We’re trying to let people know we are open for business again,†said Palacio. “What we see is a total disregard for the TTC in terms of management. It seems no one knows what’s happening there.â€

Palacio said the St. Clair experience bodes poorly for other neighbourhoods in Toronto where new Transit City streetcar rights-of-way are planned.

The TTC says the work yard Palacio suggested its contractors use is already being rented to someone else.

But the trailers parked near Signorile’s shop will be gone by the end of the week and the streetcars will finally be running west of Lansdowne Ave., where buses currently take over transit service, on that section of St. Clair by July 5, said TTC spokesman Brad Ross.

“We, of course, do appreciate the frustration that merchants have endured during this construction process,†he said. “But in a few short weeks the entire line will be open and te St. Clair West streetcar will pay dividends to everyone.â€

Had a look at the loop today and it will not be ready for the 20th given the fact that the overhead is up for the full lenght of Phase IV now.

Crews were putting the the final touches to the loop overhead and should be finish this weekend. It is not the same style as the other 2 loops considering it was supposed to be the same as Oakwood.

The shelter crew needs to show up to finish Old Weston Rd, Keele, Gunns Rd and Gunns Loop shelters.

Trees have been planted between Keele and Gunn Rd, but still waitng their cover. Some of the trees are very mature well others as very small.

Crews were saw cutting concrete curbs in the bus bay to finish laying the pavers and who OppSSS!! mistake is this? Fresh new markings on the sidewalk and bus bays for somemore Opps!!.

Lanscaping well underway and should be finish next week.

There is a streetpole missing on St Clair that support the overhead, but TTC Crew has it tie off from the other poles until that missing pole shows up. Will not effect TTC service.

Hydro wires laying on top of the overhead wires at Old Weston Rd that needs to be removed.

Only a couple tempoary pole still standing and supporting traffic lights for part of Keele intersection. My understanding these poles will be gone next week.

The eastbound manhole frames just east of Keele St are been rebuilt again for the 3rd time. The road for the whole Phase IV has been prepared for the final top coat starting just east of Old Weston Rd that was done by Dufferin Construction.

Not ready for the 20th? Is that a typo? I think it may be ready, unless there are days of heavy rail or a runaway army tank.

Once it opens, the 512 St. Clair will run a couple of months under the Disneyland Effect, until it wears off into normal.

Are they building the platforms to the correct height for level boarding with the new LRVs? It doesn't look like it from the pictures.

No, flush to the ground.

TTC NEEDS to built platflorms at the same level of the new cars, but until TTC gets a prototype, it a guess game.

By having the same level as the car for the platform, you don't have to worry about a ramp for the accessiblity people. Same for strollers.

As for the 20th, no typo as Dufferin Construction is about 2 weeks behind schedule. They were suposed to be finish at the end of May and today is the 11th.
