Someone is messing around with the light feature again tonight. Probably us too, I've seen this enough times over the past year & a half.
 
My friend Jed sent me this today from the 68th floor of FCP. Missing panels still evident.

Why on Earth is the back of the spire / onion dome not coloured real/black to match the rest of that corner feature?! It's such an obvious move that it hurts my mind to have to ask the question.

Because a black roof would absorb heat to no end. For that reason, all building roofs are typically white or light grey. The issue of the colour not matching is so insignificant compared to the heat gain problems a black roof would create.
 
A black roof would be a problem for sure. Using teal spandrel or glazing and black mullions on the back of the onion dome, much less so.
 
Copper or titanium would have been the best choices for the dome roof. Both would turn heads. Copper would look amazing with its initial lustre. It would later oxidize and match the colour of the spandrels. Titanium would be a sleek postmodern gesture with a lasting lustre.

The onion dome roof is clad in titanium-zinc panels.
