It may not be Las Vegas Sphere aesthetic, but it sure is amazing what a new coat of paint, a little accent lighting, new signage, and video displays can do! To me, they correctly spent the money where it counted, on the interior and the systems to create a world class entertainment venue. The lipstick made this pig look pretty damn good. Now if someone would just whisper in Rogers ears (cough Rogers Centre exterior cough).

I still think for handing over the arena and several properties, we should have got a little more pop for the public realm.

The corner should have been built out to make a new signature entrance, that alone I don't think would have cost much and it would have been enough to make it feel entirely new.

What's the name of the Bay street entrance, rezi- something?

Can't wait to get in and see it!

So what's up with the name "Reziliance Gate"?

The green underlighting is admittedly cool - although I am not a huge fan of the giant sono-tube looking pillar for the screens out front and how it pokes out above the top of it.. looks a bit cheap personally.

I believe it's a sponsor. Seeing Red is a media company. From the press release:

"The Rezilience Gate presented by Seeing Red is the primary entrance for guests as a tribute to Indigenous success, creativity, and culture."

It was there before the renovation but not as prominent.

The Web site used to state that the arena has an "increased" capacity of 18,000 people, but I am not sure if it is actually increased. The 18,000 is for 360-degree-stage concerts, but the capacity for the PWHL game is listed at 16,500 on Ticketmaster, which I believe excludes the suites and loge seating.

Not sure how everything comes out in the wash.

I would hate to have you grade any of my papers!

But that said, I agree with the point about the pillar pointlessly sticking out above the video board. The screens themselves represent by far the best version of signage that the arena has ever seen, but if you compare them to the video board above the western entrance to Scotiabank Arena (I don't mean the giant giant Jurassic Park one), the sign is pretty modest. And I am bracing myself for how modest the centre-hung scoreboard might be --- it might just be upgraded screens within the frame of the little old one.

All told, super thankful that this renovation has taken place. It still obviously didn't have unlimited funding, but it is a major major reno and the city would never have been able to anything anywhere close to this on its own or have been able to book anywhere near the same level of programming.

The invite-only opening night event seemed to go well last night, with Earth, Wind, and Fire performing to a full house. I've only heard good things from those who went.
