Thanks for the great pictures. Hard for me to look at these without imagining a fully completed Rail Deck Park in the foreground and then pretend that it stretches all the way to the DVP with a lovely pair of pedestrian bridges going over the Union Station train shed.
 
I can't be the only one who has a visceral dislike of that growth on the the north face of the tower.

It really does not work with the rest of tower at all.

Ugh.

I think they just didn't go far enough with the design concept- they seem to have settled on a relatively standard build with a couple SE elements that stand out awkwardly. I actually like the cross-bracing from afar but up close they register as an afterthought. I take it they were taking a queue from Richard Rogers with the external elevator design. Agree that it just doesn't work well on what is otherwise a pretty conventional looking office building. Perhaps had they gone with better quality glazing and finishes it would work better.
