Also the bands pertruding off the top (green) box would have tied it all together litterally ...at least appear to make sense for having the bands the entire length of the building. Its still nice looking but hardly makes sense now.

Agreed. They would have given the illusion that the building was under a lot of tension; as if the elements were pulling on them like they were a bunch of overlapped elastics.

The little entrance courtyard created by the Theatre Park podium, the Royal Alex and the building to the east will be a charming space... keeping in mind it was a parking lot before!
