Kind of split on this so far- the tightly-bound fenestration and fins historicize the building in a way- but the brick is in such a limp yellow that the building feels cheaper than it really is.

Passing by late last week my comment is that the cladding makes it look like the building has always been there. I guess if that is a good thing or bad thing depends on how you feel about the existing context and architecture of the school of engineering.

A relatively inoffensive addition that blends into the greater U of T landscape. But I agree that the color of brick here leaves it falling short. A red, brown, or even just a darker yellow would have been a better choice.

It looms too much.

I thought it originally was supposed to incorporate the former Physical Geography Building. Would have made the design more interesting.

The building really fits in with UofT I take back my criticism of this being bland..

AFAIC, this building's presence along St George is better than its Front Campus side.

Was this the last parking lot on St. George? The CEIE certainly fills in and dominates the east-side street wall in the area.

Yup, though not the only remaining redevelopment site - the old Faculty of Nursing (now
Astronomy & Astrophysics Building) is still on that list I believe.

It's kind of neat in a mildly retro way. You don't see yellow bricks being used much these days.

Agreed! I like the yellow brick and the narrow windows to accentuate the vertical. Pleasantly neo-modernist and nicely echoes some other buildings around campus. I think it's mostly let down by that big grey mechanical box up top.

Fits in pretty well here. But the mechanical levels are really a shame to me; the materiality doesn’t seem well selected, and if they’d either kept the brick or gone with a nice stone, it couldn’t rounded out the design quite well.
