I was hoping they'd keep height restrictions on buildings south of the gardiner, I really like the stepped back form of the skyline. Plus the fact that 10 York and 90 Harbour are disgusting designs that are clearly aiming for huge profits with no aesthetic consideration what so ever. Those buildings will block the more distinguished buildings behind it that actually mean something to people (Royal York, rbc plaza, td centre). So yay for density, but nay for ugly buildings (especially the double box towers with shared podium, that design is plain regressive)
 
This is going to block my view of the CN Tower from Canoe :( The proportions are also huge, it's like have FCP twin towers spitting distance from each other.. I would prefer this were half its height and slimmer.

Royal York has already disappeared behind other buildings and the TD Centre is still visible in the skyline render; no loss there.
 
It would be nice if some of the more artistically inclined members of the forum could give us afuture rendering of what that skyline picture would look like with the mirvish towers and any others that would be seen from that vsita !( Referring to the most picture that oxford released today)

No way! Slimming these and reducing the height would ruin it all.
 
Who cares about keeping the current skyline intact. Keep them coming and the skyline will continue to grow and evolve in amazing ways.
 
This project is a big IF. First off, the city has to approve the casino project which won't be known until the earliest in Feb 2013, may even be later than that. Right now it's looking like a 50/50 chance of either happening. If they turn it down than this project will not happen, nor will any other casino project.

Secondly, once they get an approval there has to be a discussion on where it goes. I'm sure it will end up being on city owned land so Toronto can receive more money from it. But I know these big companies prefer somewhere near the lake or in the downtown core. I don't blame them

Third, once the city decides where to put it... then comes the applications from different companies ranging from Oxford to MGM to Caesers all submitting their plans which must be put through council and all the testing must be done, etc. This stage alone is a minimum 2 year timeline.

So here's a tentative timeline:

First half of 2013: Casino project approved by city
Second half of 2013: Discuss/Plan/Decide where to put casino and put out feelers to companies interested in building it, companies will submit their ideas and plans
Early 2014: City decides who will build it (MGM, Caesars, Oxford, etc)
Late 2014: Final plan submitted to province and city council
Late 2015: Approval? (I'm guessing the usual process will be expedited because the province wants this done ASAP)
2016: Construction begins
2020: Casino/Hotel opens
 
I'm wondering how this will effect the site behind it. The two proposed Cadillac Fairview towers at Front/Simcoe. If Oxford gets approval won't CF be trying to double their height too?

I dont know about doubling the height when they are already proposing 222m and 235 meters
