Considering how many times HSR has been proposed/considered, I am less optimistic it will happen any time soon.
The Liberals are near the end, and I seriously wonder whether PP will move ahead with it.
This video has probably been posted on this thread before, but for the younglings who haven’t seen it, watch and weep.

 
On the topic of new signage, there’s something so Toronto about replacing all the wayfinding and still needing a giant freestanding sign to point to the washrooms. At least it’s using the new design language…

Also got a shot of the Yonge St pedestrian bridge, it sure looks like we’ll be able to watch trains on the corridor!

I'd expect HSR to use the old half-mile bridge into the Don Valley and come into Union using the Richmond Hill line tracks. The trains could either terminate at a refurbed platform set at the north end of the station or perhaps a separate terminal just to the east. RH line trains being peak only would mean limited conflict, and I expect GO cancelling their plans for a small yard in the Don Valley had something to do with HSR potentially using that route.

I wouldn't object if they used the 407 Busway corridor to head to Pearson, with intermediate stops at Unionville GO and Highway 407 TTC stations.

Perhaps GO could run a few trains through that area too.

Has not been considered to this point.

I have no problem w/the theory of it, with the admonishment that the biggest selling feature of HSR vs air is something much closer to door to door service, which is to say downtown to downtown, with a handful of intermediate options which air won't offer.

So Pearson is a good add-on, but not a substitute; and that creates an economic challenge where HSR would have to be on the hook for costs related to both.

As such, I don't see it happening, at least not in that way or at this time.

I expect you will see 'Union West' (Pearson) resurrected sooner than later........and spurring mainline GO (Kitchener service) through the airport lands, quite probably in a tunnel is the most likely way in which the airport is connected to HSR for the foreseeable future.

But this is all (educated) guess work, as any proponent will be ironing out options and costs with this or a future government (assuming it goes ahead) for several years yet.

Just wait until the potential Union Station bridge from Yonge Street is built. It’ll block views from CIBC Square Park but there will be a cool view from the bridge too:
