Bummer. I was kind of hoping they’d find an ancient burial ground and have to abandon the project in favour of a park.

The area is 20th century fill - not much of a chance of that happening unless the area was previous land that got flooded (and my understanding is that ancient Lake Ontario levels are higher than they are now).

There was a geological period where Lake Ontario's shorelines were about 20m lower than before, which has referred to as Lake Admiralty.

Which also led to this:

When Waterfront Toronto were having their naming competition for a new street lining the lake, I submitted "Admiralty" as a name, to pay homage to the old receded shoreline of the Lake. They went with Merchant's Wharf instead. Perhaps I will try again when the next opportunity arises, probably in the Portlands.
