Does anyone know why the blue titanium cladding has a crumpled tinfoil look to it? Will it be smoothed out, or is that how it is going to look?

The crumpled look is called 'oil canning' and comes from the thickness of the material and the way it was installed. Gehry usually designs his buildings this way becuase he likes the look. Probably becuase it looks like fish scales.

still looks like they ran out of lego pieces. I wonder how long the box appeal will last. In 15 to 20 years we might need to glue some other boxes to the side to spruce it up.

A Choreographer Creates Work to Be Performed on Frank Gehry Buildings

After he met Ms. Lafrance earlier this year at his L.A. office, Mr. Gehry wrote a letter of recommendation to the property owners of nine buildings that he designed. "Ms. Lafrance's integration of architecture in choreography is fascinating and groundbreaking," he wrote.

At the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, a soon-to-open Gehry building with a façade that looks like a harp, talks are underway to host Ms. Lafrance in 2010. Chris Lorway, vice president of programming at Toronto's Luminato Festival, a partner in commissioning the mix of modern dance and architecture, says, "The idea of having all those elements come together would be hard for anyone to turn down."

A facade that looks like a harp?

It doesn't even look like glass harp.

Still, I look forward to seeing this.

Ahem, you sure about that..? Cause I have seen some pretty nice box in this city..

I agree.

The Cyan hued titanium is interesting, but I'm not sure I'd call it the most beautiful box in the city.

Overall, the exterior design is a mess.

This (the blue stuff) is the sort of cladding the ROM Crystal should have had, except a different colour. Would have looked a thousand times better than what we have now.

The Dundas frontage looks amazing but the box...not so much. It looms unsimpathetically over the Grange and that weird bright blue colour is just awful.

Oh, this is slightly off topic but wasn't the green space under the OCAD tabletop supposed to be an extension of Grange Park? Anyone know why that little parking lot is still there?

I love the blue. Really love it! It is very striking.

This is a really exciting project and I can't wait to see what has been done on the inside.

As for something looming over the Grange, something has been looming over it for quite a while now.
